BCT Editorial – 5/30/08

Political enablers; Editorial; Beaver County Times; May 30, 2008.

The editorial subtitle is “Three major presidential candidates have thrown fiscal prudence overboard.”

The editorial refers to Opportunity 08 as “a bipartisan effort to raise awareness about policy issues.”  Check the Opportunity 08 website “About Us” page and you find “Opportunity 08 is a project of the Brookings Institution in partnership with ABC News.”  The Brookings Institution is a left-leaning “think tank,” and when did ABC News become “bipartisan?”  Once again we have Times disinformation about a source.  You may recall that in “Budget busts” the Times referred to an advocacy group linked to Brookings as “nonpartisan.”

Now that we’re past what the Times considers “bipartisan” and “nonpartisan,” did you note what’s missing from the editorial?  That’s right, any comparison of the candidates.  You probably know why.  Comparing the positions and history of Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama to those of Mr. McCain in this area would be favorable to Mr. McCain.

Finally, I never cease to be amazed the Times continues to publish editorials about “fiscal prudence,” given that editorials constantly tell us we’re not spending enough on this or that.
