BCT Editorial – 7/9/08

This page was last updated on July 10, 2008.

Blind to justice; Editorial; Beaver County Times; July 9, 2008.

The editorial subtitle is “Evidence grows for a moratorium on death penalty.”

This is simply the latest installment of the Times opposition to the death penalty, even for terrorists convicted of murder.  As a result, I’ll make only a couple of comments.

In one of the cases cited, the editorial tells us what evidence was NOT presented but never describes the evidence that was presented.  That story ends with “He was convicted and sentenced to die based on circumstantial evidence.”  The editorial didn’t mention – maybe the author doesn’t know – all evidence except for an eyewitness (and perhaps video) is “circumstantial evidence.”  The DNA evidence that may or may not exonerate the convict will be circumstantial evidence.
