BCT Editorial – 11/21/08

Leeches; Editorial; Beaver County Times; November 21, 2008.

The Times has a habit of name-calling and this editorial is another example.  Two previous editorials on this topic were entitled “Welfare queens” (5/21/08 and 8/14/07) and another carried the title “Welfare leeches.”

This editorial says, “The dirty little secret of Harrisburg politics is that the rural parts of the state are leeching [my emphasis] off the Philadelphia and, to a lesser extent, Pittsburgh areas, and that without the tax revenue from these regions, they’d be in a world of hurt.”

There’s nothing new in this editorial, so please read my previous critiques for my comments.

Of course, the logical extension of this name-calling is that everyone but “the rich” are “leeches” since “the rich” pay a disproportionately high share of taxes.  Does anyone care to bet if we’ll ever see a Times editorial get into that bit of name-calling?
