Credibility gap; Editorial; Beaver County Times; May 24, 2009.

This is just another in a semi-regular series of editorials claiming you can’t trust what’s on the Internet.  No kidding, Sherlock!  The implication is you can trust the mainstream media like the Times.  The truth is, you can’t trust anything regardless of the source until you check it out.

Some previous editorials on this topic were “Unreal,” “Rumor central,” “Face time,” “Anything goes,” “Debasing the web,” “Silly,” and “Gresham’s Law.”  Editorials occasionally dump on cable news channels as well.

Since this editorial adds no new arguments, please refer to my critiques of the above editorials for most of my general comments on the topic.

Finally, does the Times not realize that with an Internet presence of its own, it’s a contributor to the problem it sees?
