The Times position on declaring victory and getting out of anywhere is akin to smoke in the wind.
A little over six years ago an editorial said, “No matter who takes the oath of office on Jan. 20 [2005], the United States must stay the course in Iraq.” Later the Times proclaimed, “The Bush administration is laying the groundwork to declare victory and get out of Iraq” and said “It cannot be allowed to declare victory and bug out.” Less than eight months later, the Times switched from falsely accusing President Bush of planning to cut and run to calling for us to cut and run.
