‘Join us in voting for all of life’; Sherry Allen; Beaver County Times; October 26, 2008.

Ms. Allen wrote three previous letters I didn’t critique.  One (“Conserving water for future,” 1/13/08) asked us to conserve water (primarily by not eating meat) and another (“Say ‘no’ to push polling,” 2/10/08) complained about alleged telephone “push polls” by Republicans, and the third was (“Plant a garden to offset oil usage,” 8/1/08).  In one letter I did critique, Ms. Allen gushed about a book she found “that has hundreds of ideas on how to save our planet.”  In a partisan letter, Ms. Allen concluded with “Let’s endeavor to walk together peacefully.”  In her most recent previous letter, Ms. Allen related a story of disaffected Republicans voting for Mr. Obama.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“I’ve always voted for the presidential candidate who was least likely to embrace war, but not necessarily anti-abortion, because of my grandfather’s experience serving in World War I in which six million died.”

[RWC] Does anyone want to bet that all of the presidential candidates for whom Ms. Allen voted just happened to be Democrats?

As you’ll see, this letter is just another bogus attempt to draw a comparison between war and abortion for convenience.

“Even though he was a Christian, he said, ‘I don’t know if God will forgive me for killing mothers’ sons.’”

[RWC] What about fathers’ sons?  I’m not the guy to address religious questions, but would God forgive us for allowing enemy “mothers’ sons” to kill our mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, brothers, sisters, et cetera?  Let’s go one further.  Would God forgive us for not defending the defenseless?

“He also asked, ‘How can anyone love the unborn more than the lives God already put here and support war?’”

[RWC] May I assume Ms. Allen and her grandfather (if alive at the time) opposed our entry into World War II?

Note the “support war” comment, as if anyone in the U.S. wants war.  Should the U.S. be threatened or attacked, what does Ms. Allen believe should be our response?

We can’t choose who decides to threaten or attack us.  That’s up to our enemies.  We can, however, choose not to kill unborn children for convenience.

“Remember, our pro-life president and Congress are responsible for the deaths of more than a million Iraqis (most of whom were children), and more than 5,000 of our men and women.  Why don’t these dead people count?  Who switched the price tag?”

[RWC] Hmm, I thought the enemies of Iraq and the U.S. “are responsible for the deaths of more than a million Iraqis (most of whom were children), and more than 5,000 of our men and women.”

Though apparently enamored with stating figures, did you catch the one Ms. Allen omitted?  Yep, Ms. Allen didn’t cite the figure for unborn children killed in the name of abortion for convenience.

“Sen. John McCain vows to chase Osama bin Laden to the gates of hell, stay in Iraq and joked on camera about bombing Iran — and then lied about it in front of our nation.

“On Nov. 4, join us in voting for all of life.”

[RWC] Who is “us?”

Translation: Join us (whoever that is) in voting for a man who supports killing unborn children for convenience, up to and including letting babies who survive an abortion die by denying them care.

Remember, when speaking about abortion and his daughters, Mr. Obama said, “but if they [Obama’s daughters] make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”  I don’t know about Mr. Obama’s upbringing, but I never learned babies were punishment.
