Conservatives keep dishing out excuses; Sam Allen; Beaver County Times; October 5, 2008.

Mr. Allen’s most recent previous letter claimed, “You can’t back war and be pro-life.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“In response to Wednesday’s letter ‘Media destroyed Bush’s presidency,’ I have a couple of comments and a question.

“First, the liberal media fairy tale is becoming exceedingly boring.  When Bush unilaterally and without justification invaded Iraq, every major news organization rolled over and played dead.  That was hardly what one would expect from the so-called liberal media.”

[RWC] Liberal media bias is a “fairy tale?”  Sure.  Please read “Media Bias” for more on this topic.

President “Bush unilaterally and without justification invaded Iraq?”  I guess Mr. Allen missed the Iraq War Resolution and the coalition that joined us.

“Only two reporters, Andy Rooney and Michael Moore, stood up to Bush.  Both these men were vilified by the majority of the American herd, a group that was thoroughly brainwashed by the neocon Mafia that controlled the country and the press at that time.”

[RWC] “Andy Rooney and Michael Moore” are “reporters?”  Sadly, Mr. Allen may not be too far off the mark in that too many of today’s “reporters” let their biases (We all have them.) direct what we’re told are “news” stories.

When someone uses the term “neocon,” that’s usually a sure sign he’s merely repeating what he heard from some lefty activist or website.  Sometime I’ll have to list all the definitions of neocon I’ve received from lefties.

“Second, blaming Bill Clinton for allowing Osama bin Laden to survive is the supreme copout.  I agree that bin Laden was the spearhead of extremist animosity directed at the United States.”

[RWC] Oops, Mr. Allen is straying from leftist dogma.  Doesn’t he realize the U.S. is to blame, especially President Bush?

“So perhaps someone could explain to me why Bush went after Saddam Hussein and not bin Laden?  It was like beating up the third-grade bully because the ninth-grade bully punched out your little brother.”

[RWC] That last sentence sounds like projection by Mr. Allen.

“Finally, I’d like to ask if the Republicans will ever take responsibility for their actions.  For four years they controlled both chambers of Congress and the White House (not to mention the Supreme Court), yet somehow that wasn’t enough time or power to achieve their goals.”

[RWC] I know Mr. Allen will consider this nitpicking, but Republicans didn’t control the Senate.  You need at least 60 votes you can depend on to “control” the Senate.  Republicans didn’t have close to 60 seats, let alone 60 reliable votes.

That Republicans control the Supreme Court is Mr. Allen’s fairy tale.  If Republicans controlled the Supreme Court, I believe it’s safe to say the 2008 decision upholding the Second Amendment case would have done much better than squeaking by 5-4.

“And now all I hear from the right-wing talk show blowhards and some letter writers are excuses.  Could these people even exist if they didn’t have someone else to blame their mistakes on?”

[RWC] You’ll note Mr. Allen didn’t provide any specifics.
