Graduate and go on welfare; Janet Caldarelli; Beaver County Times; May 22, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Isn’t it ironic?  Young people complete high school with exceptional grades in order to be accepted to college.

“With their parents’ help as well as student loans, they finally reach their goal — they graduate.

“Now, as an adult are without a job, a place to live (unless they stay with their parents), a lot of bills as well as college loans to repay, they have — to add insult to injury — no health insurance.”

[RWC] Why would a college graduate not have a job?

“This is the thanks they get for attempting to conduct themselves as a responsible U.S. citizen.  If they were an illegal alien who crossed the border to give birth, the child would automatically become a citizen, entitled to free housing, food, and, best of all, health care.”

[RWC] Does a “responsible U.S. citizen” spend his and his parents’ money on a college degree that won’t result in a job upon graduation?

“My advice to college grads is to move out on their own and apply for welfare.  It works for everyone else, doesn’t it?”

[RWC] Don’t get me wrong.  No one should be able to mooch off taxpayers.  My problem is with Ms. Caldarelli’s college graduate scenario.  Based on previous letters (Here’s an example.), I believe Ms. Caldarelli believes in socialized healthcare.
