Lonzie Cox, Jr. – 11/30/11

Racial goal sought?; Lonzie Cox, Jr.; Beaver County Times; November 30, 2011.  I am not related to Mr. Cox.

Most of Mr. Cox’s at least 70 letters since 2004 are tinged with race, and all take leftist positions.  The most recent previous Cox letter I critiqued was “Selective criticism -- again.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Before reality set in on Herman Cain’s quest for the Republican party nomination, he proved once again that even a bad candidate can boost his poll ratings by attacking African Americans as politically brainwashed or worse.”

[RWC] While he complains about Mr. Cain “attacking African Americans as politically brainwashed or worse,” you may recall Mr. Cox referred to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as an “Uncle Tom.”  Indeed, Mr. Cox attacks black men and women simply for being conservative while he has a blind spot for lefties who engage in racism.

What does Mr. Cox mean by “reality set in on Herman Cain’s quest for the Republican party nomination?”

Which “bad candidate[s] … boost[ed] [their] poll ratings by attacking African Americans as politically brainwashed or worse?”  Here’s the relevant portion of Mr. Cain’s CNN interview of September 28, 2011.

“BLITZER: You’re doing well in the polls right now but let me specifically ask you about the African-American community.  Why is the Republican party basically poisoned for so many African-Americans?

“CAIN: Because many African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open-minded, not even considering a conservative point of view.  I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative.  So, it’s just brainwashing and people not being open-minded, pure and simple.

“BLITZER: That’s -- that’s a strong word to talk about your fellow African-Americans, brainwashed?

“CAIN: For two-thirds of them, Wolf, that is the case.  Now, the good news is, I happen to believe that a third to 50 percent of the black Americans in this country, they are open-minded.  I’m meeting them every day.  They stop me in the airport.  And, so, this whole notion that all black Americans are necessarily going to stay and vote Democrat and vote for Obama, that’s simply not true.  More and more black Americans are thinking for themselves and that’s the good thing.

“BLITZER: And you’ve suggested, correct me if I’m wrong, that if you were the Republican nominee you think a third of African-Americans would vote for you?

“CAIN: I do believe a third would vote for me based upon my own anecdotal feedback.  Now, they won’t be voting for me because I’m black, they’ll be voting for me because of my policies and because of what I’m offering to fix this economy, starting with, as you know, my 9-9-9 plan.  That’s what they’re responding to.”

As a reminder, exit polls indicated 96% of black voters voted for candidate Barack Obama in 2008According to FactCheck.org, since 1960 when Richard Nixon got 32% of the black vote, “No Republican presidential candidate has gotten more than 15 percent of the black vote.”  While it’s technically not brainwashing, it’s clear something is amiss.

As for use of the term “brainwashed,” Mr. Cox had no problem using it when he wrote of our troops in Iraq.

“Cain’s right wing ‘base’ loved him for being anti-black while stupidly denying that racism still dominates American politics.  Cain’s mindless comments encouraged Laura Ingram [sic], Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and others to unleash a barrage of racist commentary, feeling that Herman Cain has given them permission to do so.”

[RWC] Let me get this straight; a “right wing ‘base’” supports a black candidate (Mr. Cain) because he’s “anti-black?”  Wow!

As for “racism still dominates American politics,” you may recall all “concerns” about Mr. Obama’s skin color came from the left - not the right - during the 2008 Democrat primary.  Mr. Cox himself commented on this here and here.

Note Mr. Cox didn’t provide examples of the “barrage of racist commentary.”  Anyone familiar with Miss Ingraham and Messrs. Beck and Limbaugh knows Mr. Cox’s accusation is BS.

“However, a local story in the Times has caused many citizens in Beaver County to seek clarification.  In his Nov. 3 redistricting article, J.D. Prose mentioned that state Rep. Jaret Gibbons will now have more black constituents than ever before.  Meaning what?”

[RWC] What’s to understand?  More importantly, who cares?  Lefties are obsessed with skin color and Mr. Prose is a leftist pundit.  You can find more examples of Mr. Prose’s obsession here.

I’ll go out on a limb and guess every district will have more or less of any given group (black, white, male, female, old, young, et cetera).

“Will blacks have separate forms for licenses, registration, PACE or tax rebate programs.  I think not.  Yet I wonder where that idea came from.  Was it a part of the discussion in Republican gerrymandering the district to achieve some racial goal?  What’s up with that?  An answer is urgently needed.”

[RWC] I thought lefties were big into things like “affirmative action” and “diversity” programs with “racial goal[s].”

Of local state reps, Mr. Gibbons (D-10) lost in Beaver County in 2010 with the smallest margin of loss (54% to 46%).  Since black voters overwhelmingly vote for Democrats, wouldn’t more black voters in the BC portion of Mr. Gibbons’ district help him get re-elected?
