Lonzie Cox, Jr. – 4/14/13

Think ahead; Lonzie Cox, Jr.; Beaver County Times; April 14, 2013.  Though my friends have fun at my expense by referring to him as my “Cousin Lonzie,” I am not related to Mr. Cox.

Most of Mr. Cox’s at least 86 letters since 2004 are tinged with race, and all take leftist positions.  The most recent previous Cox letter I critiqued was “Combined churches can do good.”  You can find more Cox letters in the archives (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004).

When it comes to race issues, Mr. Cox is pretty tolerant if you share his leftist ideology.  For example, Mr. Cox had no problem with the late-Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV), a former KKK officer, but referred to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as an “Uncle Tom.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“So Tom Corbett is low in the polls.  Well, ain’t that shocking?  Corbett’s unpopular?  When did that happen?

“Pennsylvania voters had a chance in 2010 to elect Dan Onorato as governor.  Onarato [sic] would have been a good populist governor with the peoples’ needs in mind.  Onorato didn’t seem to have personal agendas the way Corbett does.  Instead, the majority chose Corbett, and we haven’t had any rest since.”

[RWC] “[Dan] Onorato didn’t seem to have personal agendas the way Corbett does?”  If true, it likely would be the first time in history a politician didn’t have an agenda, whether “good” or “bad.”

If I weren’t familiar with Mr. Cox’s letter-writing body of work, I’d be surprised by Mr. Cox’s praise of Mr. Onorato.  That’s because, after his term as Allegheny County Executive ended, Mr. Onorato took a job with Highmark, an evil medical insurance company.

“Corbett has pushed the right-wing conservative agenda on voter suppression to steal the vote from low-income whites and black citizens, tried to sell our lottery system to the British and wants to give the privatized liquor licenses to the same old groups and who knows what else is coming from the Tea Bagger influenced Legislature.”

[RWC] I covered the “voter suppression” BS in my critique of a couple of Beaver County Reds pieces.

Mr. Cox’s complaints about the privatization of liquor/wine sales and lottery management are driven by the potential reduction in condition-of-employment membership dues for labor union management to use for political activity.

When Mr. Cox writes of “Tea Bagger[s],” could this be an example of projection? <g>

“We have the mandate to kick Corbett out of the governorship in 2014, but look how much damage he will have done by then.  Voters must think ahead.  Afterward it’s too late.”

[RWC] Except that we need to wait until 2017 instead of 2015, Mr. Cox appears to be writing about President Obama, not Gov. Corbett.
