Don’t let racism win on Election Day; Geraldine DeSena; Beaver County Times; September 17, 2008.

According to The Huffington Post website, Ms. DeSena has contributed at least $500 to the Obama campaign.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I came home Saturday night to find my Barack Obama yard sign torn off its wire bracket and thrown on my sidewalk.

“In addition to this, people have told me that they are not voting for Obama simply because he is African American.”

[RWC] What about blacks voting “for Obama simply because he is African American?”  During the Democrat primary, blacks voted for Mr. Obama in a lopsided manner (as high as 93% in Illinois), even in states won by Hillary Clinton.

“Seeing and hearing these things deeply disturb me.  I had hoped we were farther along in our humanitarian consciousness than this.

“Here is a presidential candidate whose political platform is driven by integrity, justice and intelligence — qualities that have been sorely missed in these last eight years.”

[RWC] Mr. Obama’s “political platform is driven by integrity, justice and intelligence?”  On what basis does Ms. DeSena make that assertion?  You’ll note Ms. DeSena provided no details, just as every other pro-Obama letter writer to date.

“Yet too many people (for even one would be too many) cannot get past the color of his skin.  It is time to think and break out of close-mindedness.”

[RWC] Hmm, where was Ms. DeSena when fellow Aliquippa Obama supporter Jewel Robertson wrote, “Don’t you feel it is time for an African American [for President]?”

“We cannot afford to let racism win on Election Day.”

[RWC] This is the same old stuff we’ve been hearing since Mr. Obama started his campaign.  If you’re white and don’t support Mr. Obama, it’s because of racism.  I didn’t see a similar letter from Ms. DeSena when Lynn Swann ran for PA governor in 2006.
