Elizabeth Asche Douglas – 10/1/10

Let’s keep current woes in perspective; Elizabeth Asche Douglas; Beaver County Times; October 1, 2010.  An editor’s note asserts, “The writer is a retired Geneva College professor.”

Mrs. Douglas is a local artist.  In previous letters, Mrs. Douglas tried to defend Jeremiah Wright and told us there are good reasons to vote on 11/2/10.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Following is a parable I wrote to illustrate one of the topics at issue in the current political/economic climate.”

[RWC] This is the second letter from Mrs. Douglas in the last three days.

“I composed it for a discussion with some young people I am mentoring in critical and creative thinking, but it occurs to me that it may be useful for the public at large.”

[RWC] Based on previous letters from Mrs. Douglas, I would not be surprised to learn “critical and creative thinking” is leftyspeak for lefty thinking.  After you read the following paragraphs, I think you’ll agree.

“‘A tugboat is guiding a great cargo ship through tricky harbor waters.  The over-confident tug captain makes a risky move and crashes against rocks he should have been wary of.  The tug rapidly takes on water and begins to sink.

“‘The commander of the big ship, knowing his vessel can’t make it into port without the tug leading the way, launches a rescue.  The tug is bailed out.  Damaged and lacking its pre-crash mobility, it slowly guides the ship in.

“‘As a result of the delay, some of the big ship’s cargo has gone bad.  On shore, many of those waiting for the ship to come in with their goods are angry.  They condemn the bailout as unwarranted favoritism and denounce the big ship’s commander.  They don’t realize that had he let the tugboat sink, the big ship would still be at sea.’”

[RWC] Translation: Support President Obama and anyone who supports him.

At least Mrs. Douglas admits she’s indoctrinating “some young people” with leftist propaganda.  I wonder if the parents of these “young people” know how Mrs. Douglas is “mentoring” their children.
