What happened to the promises Trump made?; Thomas M. Finch; Beaver County Times; January 12, 2017.

The BCT has published at least 43 letters from Mr. Finch (TMF) since December 2004.  At least 31 of these letters were anti-Bush and/or anti-Republican and they never disappoint.  Here is one example.  You can find the remaining Finch letters I critiqued in the critique archives.  As usual, this letter is little more than a string of leftist talking points.  I wish he could get a regular column in the BCT.  I also wish he could get at least five minutes per day on a local radio and/or TV station.  The most recent prior letter I reviewed was “Republicans turn abortion into political issue.”  Eight days after this letter, the BCT published “Trump wants the truth to be whatever he says it is.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Considering the flood of letters recently in The Times from ‘Trumpers’ seeking to play nice and bring this country together.  Let me add a few thoughts:

“I’m glad that letter writers Rita Gavert and Sandra Kolavic learned the meaning of ‘deplorable’ -- at least Hillary taught you something.  When Obama got elected, Republicans stooped to ‘ape’ parodies.  I guess you forgot those fun times, huh?  How about some deplorable lies?  How is the ‘build the wall,’ ‘jail HRC,’ ‘bring back steel jobs’ and ‘drain the swamp’ looking so far?”

[RWC] Does TMF know Donald Trump hasn’t yet taken office?

“When Obama got elected, Republicans stooped to ‘ape’ parodies?”  Which Republicans?  TMF chose not to mention President George W. Bush also got the ape/chimp/monkey treatment.  A local teacher (Nikola Drobac, now deceased) had multiple side-by-side photos of Mr. Bush and monkeys on his now-defunct website.  Predictably, President Obama supporters say it’s not the same.

Does BHO telling us Obamacare would let us keep our current healthcare policies and would reduce our premiums count as a “deplorable lie?”  There’s more about this below.

“Let’s take a closer look at ‘drain the swamp.’ The biggest qualification that most of his cabinet/adviser choices have is that they are all millionaires who dished out big money to get him elected.  Jeff Sessions -- a southern, anti-civil-rights racist for attorney general?  Steve Bannon, a white supremacist, as strategist and confidante?  Please, spare me.  Rick Perry?  Mr. I Can’t Remember Three Things?  How about putting Goldman-Sachs people in key financial positions?  Instead of draining the swamp, your hero is stocking it full of alligators.  How is that, for a definition of ‘deplorable?’”

[RWC] Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is a racist?  On what basis?  I covered this topic in my review of “We see no signs of ‘draining the swamp.’”

Regarding then-Texas Gov. Rick Perry (RP), TMF’s referring to a 2011 primary debate.  Before and during the debate, RP said he wanted to eliminate three federal departments should he be elected President.  RP named the first two departments (Commerce and Education) but had a “brain freeze” on the third (Energy).  RP remembered the Energy Department several minutes later.  From what I can tell, TMF had no problem with then-Sen. Barack Obama’s “brain misfire” when he said, “I've now been in fifty .... seven states?  I think one left to go.  One left to go.  Alaska and Hawaii.”

As an Obama (BHO) supporter, TMF should probably not write about lies.  I think all of us remember BHO telling us Obamacare would let us keep our current healthcare policies and would reduce our premiums.

“As for Bruce Wilson disparaging Hollywood, dissenting opinions do matter -- and Donald Trump can expect a fight on every move he makes.  Full Republican control of this country will be a disaster.  When the entire provenance of your party rests on lies, slashing services for the common good and rigging the economy to help the 1 percent instead of the rest of us, how can any good come from that?  Be happy with your delusions.”

[RWC] Blah, blah, blah.
