Palin is no role model to emulate; Cindy Freed; Beaver County Times; November 20, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“Regarding Thursday’s letter to the editor that the presidential election should be a wake-up call for young women:

[RWC] As a reminder, the author of the subject letter, Velma Berger, is a died-in-the-wool lefty just like Ms. Freed.

“It is true that women of all ages should be versed in a candidate’s beliefs, policies, and overall qualifications to hold office, but definitely not as the letter writer suggested.

“Sarah Palin did not work for women’s rights; she worked for women’s rights as long as those women held her own distorted views of women’s roles in all facets of our society.”

[RWC] Note Ms. Freed didn’t provide any examples.

“The young women my daughter’s age recognize Palin for who she is — unqualified, selfishly ambitious and unable to reach out to people, both women and men, without using angry rhetoric and making accusatory, outlandish and unsubstantiated remarks.”

[RWC] This sentence represents a habit of Ms. Freed.  In her letter of April 27, 2005, Ms. Freed referred to the “well-documented” alleged traits of a political opponent, yet provided no factual support.  Above, Ms. Freed accused Gov. Palin of being “unqualified, selfishly ambitious and unable to reach out to people, both women and men, without using angry rhetoric and making accusatory, outlandish and unsubstantiated remarks,” again without providing factual support.  That’s what makes Ms. Freed’s “unsubstantiated” comment incredibly hypocritical.

“Yes, young women know exactly who Palin is and what she represents.

“She is no role model to be emulated.”

[RWC] Translation: Gov. Palin is a successful conservative woman who got where she is by following conservative principles, not leftist feminist beliefs.  The problem for Ms. Freed is Gov. Palin’s success disproves Ms. Freed’s beliefs.

This letter is yet more proof the left considers Gov. Palin to be a threat to their belief system.

Finally, the leftist treatment of Gov. Palin is the norm for successful non-leftist members of “victim” groups.  You’ll recall lefties refer/referred to folks like Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, Clarence Thomas, Michael Steele, et al as Aunt Jemimas, Uncle Toms, Oreos, house negroes, Stepin Fetchits, et cetera.  Again, it’s because these persons lay bare the lie that leftism is the path to success for “victims.”
