Obama is making things right again; Jesse Green, Jr.; Beaver County Times; October 20, 2009.

As you read the letter below, keep in mind Mr. Green believes disagreement with President Obama’s policies is the result of racism.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“When he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize, President Barack Obama graciously said he did so not for himself but for America.  No president in recent times has faced such challenges as Obama.”

[RWC] What else did Mr. Green expect Mr. Obama to say?  After all, Mr. Obama did nothing to earn the award and even Obama supporters on the left have made that observation.  It was awarded to Mr. Obama simply as a swipe at George W. Bush, just like the awards to Jimmy Carter (2002) and Al Gore (2007).  Besides, who would want an award presented to terrorist Yasser Arafat (1994) and Mikhail Gorbachev (1990)?  At this point in time, I believe the award is so tainted legitimate winners should decline to accept it.

As for the challenges, Mr. Green fails to note Mr. Obama supported and still supports the subprime lending policies that led to the current mess.

“Facing the near collapse of Wall Street, two costly wars, a health care battle between the needy and the outright greedy, a struggling economy and a Republican-led bloc in Congress, our president has forged ahead with programs, trying to right the wrongs left by the Bush-Cheney administration.”

[RWC] “Republican-led bloc in Congress?”  There’s been a Democrat majority in both houses of Congress since January 2007, and now the Senate is filibuster proof for Democrats.  Note Mr. Green didn’t detail “the wrongs left by the Bush-Cheney administration.”

Note that if you oppose a government-run healthcare monopoly, Mr. Green believes you are “outright greedy.”  Please read my paper entitled “Healthcare.”

“Thanks to his efforts, America is once again poised on the brink of greatness, a country that can once again take its rightful place as a world leader and erase the stain left by the Bush-Cheney administration.”

[RWC] Based on what, 9.8% unemployment and rising?  As above, Mr. Green didn’t detail “the stain left by the Bush-Cheney administration.”  It’s much easier to use drive-by assertions because you don’t need to support them with facts.

“Contrary to those Rush Limbaugh inspired Americans, a group whose only purpose is to spread hate and fear, most right-minded Americans are proud to be Americans.  I thank Obama for taking one for America.”

[RWC] In addition to being racists, now Mr. Green implies that those of us who disagree with Mr. Obama aren’t proud to be Americans.  Wrong.  The last I checked, it was Mr. Obama who constantly apologized for the U.S. during his campaign and he has continued to do so as President.
