Making money while hurting nation; Jim Hinton; Beaver County Times; May 16, 2010.

I believe Mr. Hinton began his letter-writing last March with “We should keep an eye on Limbaugh.”  Mr. Hinton also wrote a couple of letters (no longer on the Times website) during August 2009 supporting lefty positions.  In recent letters, Mr. Hinton complained that a House Republican Conference didn’t get enough coverage by the Fox News Channel and penned a letter entitled “Get facts straight before criticizing.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Wake up, people!  Glenn Beck is laughing all the way to the bank.

“If you don’t believe me, read the April 26 issue of Forbes magazine.  (It’s the one with Beck on the cover in a gray suit with dollar signs all over it.)”

[RWC] The subject article is entitled “Glenn Beck Inc.”

“In the article, Beck states: ‘I could give a flying crap about the political process.  Making money on the other hand is to be taken very seriously and controversy is its own coinage.  We are an entertainment company.’”

[RWC] Read the article and you find Mr. Beck didn’t say “Making money on the other hand is to be taken very seriously and controversy is its own coinage.”  Those are the author’s words.

As for the “entertainment company” comment, that’s nothing new and something Mr. Beck acknowledges on a regular basis.  Of course, that’s true for all media outlets.  For example, at the top of the Times website home page you find “News, Sports and Entertainment for Beaver County.”

“He makes $32 million a year and doesn’t care what damage he does to the political process.”

[RWC] Read the article and you realize when Mr. Beck talks about “the political process” he is referring to the game-playing of political parties.  That’s old news for anyone who has listened to Mr. Beck for more than 30 minutes.

“Rush Limbaugh is also an entertainer posing as a knowledgeable pundit.  He takes $36 million to the bank each year and doesn’t care what damage he does.”

[RWC] Twice Mr. Hinton mentions “damage” caused by Messrs. Beck and Limbaugh, but never tells us what that “damage” is.  I suspect Mr. Hinton defines “damage” as anything that doesn’t promote his positions.

Have you noticed lefties always have a problem with righties who make a lot of money but never have problems with lefties making a lot of money?  Last week another writer complained about Mr. Beck’s income.  I commented, “Gee, I wonder why Ms. Hovanec isn’t complaining about the $15 million/year paid to Katie Couric (CBS), Diane Sawyer (ABC -$12-$15 million/year), and others not on FNC.”  What about manmade global warming evangelist-in-chief, Al Gore?  In April, Mr. Gore purchased a $9 million ocean-view mansion in Montecito, CA.  It is at least the second mansion (The other was purchased for about $2.3 million in 2002.) for the Gores, and at least their fourth house by my count.  Finally, let’s not forget President Obama whose 2009 income was $5.5 million.

“Limbaugh stated he would leave this country if the health care bill ever passed.  When you leave, Rush, may I suggest moving to Somalia.  There is hardly any government there, very low, if any taxes, and everyone can have as many guns as they want.”

[RWC] Mr. Hinton apparently gets his info about Mr. Limbaugh from other lefties.  Mr. Limbaugh didn’t say he would move.  A caller asked Mr. Limbaugh where he’d go for healthcare if the bill passed.  Mr. Limbaugh responded, “I don’t know.  I’ll just tell you this, if this passes and it’s five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented -- I am leaving the country.  I’ll go to Costa Rica.”  The caller then mentioned Cuba’s healthcare and Mr. Limbaugh said he wouldn’t go there.  It was clear to anyone listening Mr. Limbaugh was talking about receiving healthcare, not about moving from the U.S.  Even then I’m not sure how serious Mr. Limbaugh was unless private doctors are prohibited from serving self-payers.

“That should be heaven on earth for Limbaugh.  Move, Rush, and take FOX News with you.  The sooner the better.”

[RWC] This is at least the third letter in just over a year from Mr. Hinton complaining about Mr. Limbaugh and/or FNC.
