Don’t start playing party blame game; William G. Horter; Beaver County Times; June 27, 2008.

When Mr. Horter isn’t bashing Republicans in general, and President Bush specifically, he tries to push a taxpayer-funded, government-run healthcare system (some examples are here, here, and here) on U.S. citizens.

History also shows you need to do your own due diligence regarding the “facts” Mr. Horter presents in his letters and the comments he posts on the Times website.  Here’s just one example.

Along with other letter writers I’ve mentioned, I wish Mr. Horter could get a regular column in the Times.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I have to reply to Dan Reeping’s Tuesday letter to the editor (‘Party’s marriages bad for country’).

“Reeping seems confused about who has been in charge of our government these last three decades plus.

“Mostly, that has been Republicans.  But from his first three words, I can tell how really confused his thinking is.

“He says ‘the liberal media,’ as if the media aren’t owned mostly by huge, right-wing multi-national corporations.

“Perhaps he thinks these corporations bought these media outlets for their ‘left wing’ views that he thinks these corporations espouse?

“Republican deregulations have resulted in the S&L scandal, the prime mortgage fiasco, and now, through the same loophole that Enron used, higher energy costs.

“Since 1994, the Republicans have been in de facto control of Congress, and, if not in full control, at least able to block any progressive ideas.

“But I do agree with his last thought — that this country is going to hell.  Bush and his Republican cohorts got us into Iraq, increased our national debt to huge new heights and pushed gasoline prices to new highs.

“And as far as the Constitution being shredded, Reeping can put that at Bush’s feet also.

“It was Bush who ignored the rights of the people with his wiretaps.  That had nothing to do with the American Civil Liberties Union.”

[RWC] Between Messrs. Horter and Reeping, we have dueling idiotic letters.
