What’s happening to our country?; Carol Lindley (CL); Beaver County Times; August 19, 2016.
My only previous review of a CL letter was “What’s happening to our country?”
Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.
“I applaud the Aug. 10 letter from Harold Householder titled, ‘Republican goal was to divide America.’ In my opinion, everything he stated in that letter was absolutely on point.”
[RWC] What a surprise. My review of the Householder letter is here.
“Every day I watch Donald Trump and can’t believe he’s our Republican nominee. He’s a disgrace to our country and his party. He should and could have been stopped long before now, but, unfortunately, so many Republicans just didn’t want to face the truth. Party is more important than country.”
[RWC] “our Republican nominee?” Is CL claiming to be a Republican?
“All the outrageous comments he’d made about our veterans, Sen. John McCain and the Kahn [sic] family, upright, caring Americans who risked their lives for us; disabled people; people of his own party, etc. Did he go to war? No. He found a way not to serve.”
[RWC] CL should probably stay away from the “found a way not to serve” topic. Others who “found a way not to serve” include Hillary Clinton (HRC), HRC’s VP nominee Tim Kaine, President Barack Obama, VP Joe Biden, and former-President Bill Clinton.
Let’s look at DT. According to PolitiFact, “In the course of the Vietnam War, about 15.4 million men received deferments, were exempted or disqualified.” DT received four student deferments then failed a physical resulting in “a new classification, 1-Y. That designation put him near the bottom of any call-up list. It meant he would only be drafted if there were a national emergency.” Eventually, 1-Ys became 4-Fs. Even if DT had volunteered, the 1-Y would have kept him from serving except during a national emergency. To date, I haven’t seen any credible claim DT did anything wrong.
Now let’s look at HRC’s husband, former President Bill Clinton. Mr. Clinton also “found a way not to serve.” After his student deferments ran out, Mr. Clinton evaded (an illegal act) the Vietnam draft by deceiving an Army colonel into admitting him to the ROTC program. Mr. Clinton then ran back to school in England and actively protested the U.S. government. To make it even better – and after he was 100% sure he could no longer be drafted, Mr. Clinton wrote a letter to the aforementioned colonel describing how Mr. Clinton duped him. According to Snopes.com, “That Bill Clinton went to great lengths to avoid the Vietnam-era draft, that he used political connections to obtain special favors, and that he made promises and commitments which he later failed to honor, are all beyond dispute.”
As for DT’s comments about Sen. McCain’s service, they were disrespectful. Where was CL when Obama supporters made fun of the way Mr. McCain holds his arms and that he didn’t use computers very much? Both of these problems are the result of injuries Mr. McCain acquired after his plane was shot down during the Vietnam War.
“He surrounds himself with people like Mike Tyson, Bobby Knight, Chris Christie, etc. Think about this, America: Many Republicans have already abandoned him. Ask yourself why. Is this the type of person we want to be our president?”
[RWC] I’m not a fan of anyone on CL’s list, but I don’t know what her beef is with Mr. Christie. Was CL concerned about then-Sen. Obama’s associations with people like Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers? CL may not like “Mike Tyson, Bobby Knight, Chris Christie, etc,” but to the best of my knowledge none of them was a terrorist bomber as was Bill Ayers. According to Wikipedia, “Ayers participated in the bombings of New York City Police Department headquarters in 1970, the United States Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972, as he noted in his 2001 book, Fugitive Days.” Mr. Ayers and Beaver County’s Carl Davidson have been friends since their days in the SDS. I found it interesting any mention of Mr. Ayers has been scrubbed from the SDS Wikipedia page.
“He has no solutions for our country except to say, ‘Believe me, folks.’ He definitely will not make America great again. He will destroy our country and the middle class.”
[RWC] What of HRC? HRC’s proposing more of the same “solutions” that have never worked and never will. The core of HRC’s “solutions” is to take the fruit of our families’ labor and give it to the government to spend “better” than those who earned it.
“He’s in this election for one reason alone -- Donald J. Trump, and only Donald J. Trump.”
[RWC] And HRC isn’t “in this election for one reason alone – Hillary Rodham Clinton, and only Hillary Rodham Clinton?”
“I don’t care if you’re a Republican or a Democrat; he’s not right for America. Vote your conscience. We can do better than Donald J. Trump”
[RWC] Sure, but those persons won’t be on the ballot, and CL probably wouldn’t vote for her/him if they were.
