Thomas Loxley – 2/5/17

Will GOP overreach destroy the party?; Thomas Loxley; Beaver County Times; February 5, 2017.

Previous Thomas Loxley (TL) letters I reviewed were “Election interference demands a runoff” and “Cracker plant will turn Beaver into Stinkville.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Time and again, the problem of arrogant overreach has been the demise of many empires, both large and small.  It’s like the parents who gave their son a toolbox for Christmas, only to find he dismantled the family car and didn’t know how to put it back together.”

[RWC] By “arrogant overreach” TL must be referring to Obamacare.

“Now, the Republican Party seems utterly intoxicated with its sudden control of the presidency and both houses of Congress.  All of the party’s pent-up hatred and disdain for the Democratic Party, and democracy itself, now seems poised to destroy the very America the Republicans pretend to love.”

[RWC] I neither hate the Democrat party nor like it.  That said, I do hate their leftism and its effect on our country.

The U.S. is a republic, not a democracy.

“Will its wanton hubris precipitate a swing of the political pendulum that destroys the Grand Old Party?  To be sure, Donald Trump appears to see himself as more of a king than a president.  Will his election now come to be seen as a classic Faustian bargain?”

[RWC] So now Donald Trump sold his soul to the Devil?”  TL’s not very original.  Back in 2004, one of TL’s likely comrades wrote, “It could be Satan [President George W. Bush] is hearing from because Satan is the prince of this world.”

I love it when members of one party tell the other party how to fix itself.
