What sacrifices?; David V. Matthews; Beaver County Times; February 14, 2007.

For background, in previous letters Mr. Matthews told us there’s no liberal media bias, President Bush committed treason, he’s positive creation played no role in our evolution, President Bush plans to nuke Iran this year, “Centrism is Bushism,”, and the Bush administration may be “conducting warrantless surveillance upon” us.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Thursday’s editorial ‘Shared sacrifice’ contends ‘that because the United States has an all-volunteer military, only a small percentage of the American people are bearing the burden in the war against terrorism and the occupation of Iraq.’

“The editorial thinks more Americans should ‘make real sacrifices to the war effort’ but does not specify those sacrifices.

“Does the editorial board think we should expand the military through paying more taxes, cutting social programs, or both?  Does the editorial board think we should reinstate the draft?”

[RWC] Mr. Matthews is doing OK up to this point.  I made the same point in my critique of “Shared sacrifice.”

“These two obvious sacrifices would probably make the Bush administration even more warlike and imperialist, thus increasing terrorist attacks against us.”

[RWC] Being a liberal, however, Mr. Matthews couldn’t fight the apparently irresistible urge to run off the tracks.  Do folks like Mr. Matthews have a word list (“warlike,” “imperialist,” et cetera) to refer to when they don’t have anything constructive to say?

I have one last question for Mr. Matthews.  What did the “warlike and imperialist” President Bush do to incite terrorists to attack us continuously from the 1970s through September 11, 2001?
