Bathroom trespassers need to be stopped; William McChesney; Beaver County Times; May 15, 2016.

This is not a review of the subject letter.  It’s my way to get around the BCT’s faulty profanity detector.  When I attempted to respond to a comment by Carl Davidson (KD), the BCT profanity detector blocked my post.  The error message reads “Your comment cannot be accepted due to the presence of profanity.  Please remove any objectionable content from your comment and try again.”  The message doesn’t identify the alleged occurrences of profanity or how many exist.

The BCT “profanity” detector is wound a tad too tight.  The first time (November 2014) it got me I had to change “damn” in an FDR quote to “darn.”  The second (July 2015) was similar.  This time I had two comments (this and Miklos letter) flagged in two different threads within a few days.  Of the words I thought might be misidentified as profanity, I found most of them in other published comments.  Of the remainder, fixing them didn’t help.  Unfortunately, though, if there are multiple “offenders,” there’s no way to know if you fixed one because the ones that remain still trigger the detector.  It’s like trying to find the burned out bulb(s) in a serial string of Christmas tree lights.  At this point I don’t have a clue what the alleged profanity/profanities may be.

I sent the BCT an e-mail note to support@timesonline.com about this and left a voice mail message with no responses so far.  That’s the reason for this workaround.

Below is the KD comment and my response.  You can find the complete thread here.

“You [Mr. McChesney] beg the question with the term ‘gender confusion.’  There are two sexes, but multiple genders.  Moreover, you have probably shared facilities with transgender people many times.  You just weren’t aware of it.  It’s true we’re talking about a small minority, but they exist.  For the most part, people have coped with local situations reasonably, until the far right decided to turn this into a political football by stoking up fears of the little known.  Frankly, I think those using women’s facilities have far more to worry about from the rightwing males ‘testing the rules’ and making a ruckus in stores and restrooms than from any transgender people.  Just think out it.  How would you enforce it?  One recent situation had cops beating up a ‘butch’ lesbian woman using the woman’s room, thinking she was a man.  I hope she finds a good lawyer.  Are we going to station people at the door peeking in your panties or asking for your birth certificate?  Please.  give me a break.”

Below is my response flagged for profanity.

Mr. Davidson (KD) is “mistaken” once again.  Police did NOT “beat up a ‘butch’ lesbian woman using the woman’s room, thinking she was a man.”  The police officers (one female, two male) responded to a complaint that a man was in the womens’ restroom.  Nothing in the articles I read indicated whether the complaint was legitimate or staged by lefties or righties.  In any case, the female police officer was the first to ask for ID to confirm the sex of the “male-presenting lesbian” (description as per thelip.tv) and she refused.  The woman’s friends told the police she was a woman, but the police officers did their job and asked for proof.  After the woman refused repeated requests for ID, that’s when the police told the woman to leave the restroom.  When the woman refused, the police pushed her out of the restroom but did not “beat up” the woman or anything close.  You can see for yourself at the Snopes link below.

When did it become bigoted, hateful, and so on to recognize sex-specific restrooms make sense and don’t violate anyone’s rights?

Why is it not a “war on women” to assert men have the right to use the same restrooms as women and little girls?  What if girls don’t want to share a locker room and showers with boys after gym class and vice versa?

What if, from birth to death and without exception, everyone’s view of herself/himself were consistent with her/his physical presentation and the sex determination portion of her/his DNA?  Would it be okay to assert males have the right to use the same restrooms as females and vice versa?

Getting back to the real world, how would we go about allowing legitimate “transgender people” use the appropriate facilities while stopping sex offenders and worse from taking advantage of our open-mindedness?  About two weeks ago I posed this question to KD in another forum and he chose not to answer.  Based on his comment here, it appears KD’s position is don’t worry about it, it won’t be a problem.  That is, all we need to worry about is “rightwing males ‘testing the rules’ and making a ruckus,” not sex offenders.  When it comes to laws/rules we’ve been enforcing for a long time, however, KD seems to believe it will become a nightmare.  Jokingly, I hope, KD asked, “Are we going to station people at the door peeking in your panties or asking for your birth certificate?”  Since sex-specific facilities haven’t been an enforcement nightmare so far, why would they become one?
