U.S. is giving away its wealth; Jerry Miskulin; Beaver County Times; April 5, 2009.

I encourage you to review Mr. Miskulin’s body of work in the archives.  Mr. Miskulin has written at least 20 letters since 2004 (I didn’t critique all of them.).  Most (all?) are illogical (not just wrong) and full of falsehoods.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I wonder at those in power in Washington, D.C., and their ability to shore up our economic system for the long term.

“Our economy loses billions of dollars to overseas concerns daily through the trade deficit (including oil), the federal deficit (which was being paid off under the Clinton administration), drug money, interest on the national debt, the money our troops spend overseas, foreign corporations that send their profits home and foreign aid.”

[RWC] When Mr. Miskulin buys his groceries, is he “giving away” his wealth?

“The global economy is good for corporations because they have no patriotism.”

[RWC] Is Mr. Miskulin worried about all businesses, or just corporations?

Businesses don’t exist for patriotism; they exist to generate income for the business owners.  The quickest way to kill the U.S economy – and thus demonstrate “no patriotism” – would be to have businesses make their decisions using non-economic criteria.  That said, it’s a slur to claim the U.S. management and owners of U.S. businesses aren’t patriotic.

“When people ask what happened to the United States, I have to reply that we gave it away — and are still doing so.”
