Urge Congress to pass immigration reform; Mary Pellegrino, CSJ, Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden; Beaver County Times; September 12, 2013.

In the interest of disclosure, I attended St. Titus grade school in Aliquippa during the 1950s and 1960s.  The Sisters of St. Joseph operated St. Titus.

Previous letters from Sister Pellegrino are here and here.  Previous letters from other Sisters of St. Joseph are here, here, here, and here.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“As Sisters of St. Joseph, we take seriously our Gospel call to ‘welcome the stranger’ as our brother and our sister.  It is part of our history and our spirituality.  Today, this call has taken on a sense of urgency and action.

“We strongly urge Congress to pass an immigration reform bill that is both just and comprehensive. (The House has rejected Senate Bill 774 on comprehensive immigration reform and is working on its own bill.)”

[RWC] We already have immigration law “that is both just and comprehensive.”  You’ll note Sister Pellegrino doesn’t tell us her definition of “just and comprehensive.”  I suspect “just and comprehensive” means an open border and amnesty for illegal aliens.

“Won’t you add your voice to ours?  With your prayers and support, you can help the Sisters of St. Joseph continue our 144-year-old mission to serve the critical needs of all God’s people -- our neighbors in Beaver County as well as our neighbors across the globe.

“Let us embrace and celebrate the cultures and traditions of our country’s immigrants and offer them an opportunity afforded to our ancestors.”

[RWC] As just about all lefties, Sister Pellegrino appears to equate legal immigrants with illegal aliens.  If you support legal immigration, as most Americans do, but oppose legal status for those who break our immigration laws, Sister Pellegrino would likely label you anti-immigrant.

In a previous letter, Sister Pellegrino disclosed the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden are in bed with “NETWORK, a Catholic social justice lobby.”  A visit to the NETWORK website shows NETWORK is just another leftist activist group that supports the leftist position on nearly every issue.
