Clinton preparing for 2012; Weston R. Phelps; Beaver County Times; May 1, 2008.

In his letter of four days ago, Mr. Phelps compared Barack Obama to JFK.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“As the next two Democratic primary elections in Indiana and North Carolina approach, I feel it’s important to address an issue that been irritating me for quite some time now — the absolute negativity of Hillary Rodham Clinton.”

[RWC] Oops, a tactical error on Mr. Phelps’ part.  If you’re going to use Mrs. Clinton’s middle name, that means we can use Mr. Obama’s middle name, Hussein. <g>

“Although the odds are stacked against her, Clinton still does have a chance; however it’s a slim one.  If she does pull off the comeback, it’ll be strictly because of her negativity and attacks directed at Barack Obama.

“Furthermore, her victory will have nothing to do with her policies and a lot to do with how she continually degrades Obama.  It seems as if Clinton does not even care if she wins anymore as long as she finds a way to keep Obama from winning in November.

“I truly believe that Clinton senses defeat in 2008 and is going to continue to trash Obama by spreading falsehoods and propaganda.  Why?  Because she wants John McCain to win in November 2008 so she can win in November 2012.”

[RWC] Note Mr. Phelps doesn’t describe the “falsehoods.”

“I hope her dirty tactics and attacks directed toward Obama expose her for the fraud that she really is.  The honest and sincere approach that Obama brings to the table is undeniable, unless you buy into the hogwash that Clinton is spreading.

“The honesty and sincerity that Obama carries himself with is the reason he’s so admirable, whereas Clinton is the queen of leading people into believing false information.”

[RWC] What “honesty and sincerity?”  For instance, Mr. Obama has lied about his association with Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers, and Bernadine Dohrn, appears to have an at least unwise relationship with Tony Rezko, lied about his father’s immigration to the U.S. in an attempt to link himself with JFK [He said the Kennedys funded an airlift that brought his father to the U.S.  In truth, Mr. Obama’s father came here in an airlift not funded by the Kennedys the year before.], and lied when he said the Selma, AL, marches gave his parents the idea “to get together and have a child” (The Selma marches were in 1965.  Mr. Obama was born in 1961) in an effort to link himself with the civil rights movement.  These last two lies were made in the same speech (March 4, 2007).

Of course, Mrs. Clinton gets kudos for her lies about landing in Tuzla amidst sniper fire, her “role” in the Northern Ireland peace process, and her involvement in the SCHIP program.

“Don’t you think Clinton should have to win the Democratic nomination based upon what she brings to the table instead of being victorious because she can make up some outlandish and untrue statements about her opponent?”

[RWC] Again Mr. Phelps doesn’t provide any specifics.

“You can vote for someone who’s going to put in an honest effort to bring about change (Obama), or someone who’s good at lying to you and degrading others (Clinton).”

[RWC] Note Mr. Phelps doesn’t describe the “change” Mr. Obama would “bring about.”  This is SOP for Obama supporters.

The fact is, there’s not a penny’s worth of difference between Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama, other than skin color and sex.  Both are strong leftists.  In his three years in the Senate, Mr. Obama has an ADA liberal rating of 100% for two years and 95% for the third.  During her seven years in the Senate, Mrs. Clinton’s ADA rating has never been below 94%.  Neither of the candidates can attack the other based on policies because beneath the campaign rhetoric their positions are virtually identical.
