Freedom of speech includes right to kneel; Delia A. Pisani (DAP); Beaver County Times; October 20, 2017.

Below is a review of the subject letter.

“I would like to share my thoughts on the controversy about our national anthem and what it stands for.

“To keep it concise, I will concentrate on two of its words -- free and brave.

“Bravery is the courage to stand for our convictions as our conscience dictates.  For some, it is expressed in serving our country in war.  For others, it is expressed by addressing an issue head-on by using the guarantee of our freedom of speech and expression.”

[RWC] Did DAP intend to compare those who risk their lives for a pittance to defend our country with high-income football players (2017 NFL min for rookies is $465,000)?

“This should be addressed in our churches, but since they are becoming empty while the sports arenas are packed to the limits, where better to get the peoples’ attention?

“Because this right is what our flag and national anthem stand for, I do not believe the kneeling disgraces it, but thoroughly embraces the concept.

“No one should be allowed to restrict our freedom of speech.”

[RWC] The First Amendment reads, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

As DAP likely knows, “our freedom of speech” does not apply in this case because football teams are private organizations.  As an employee of the San Francisco 49ers, Mr. Kaepernick’s (CK) on-field and off-field conduct is subject to his contract with the 49ers and NFL rules.

Where was DAP when lefties crashed Donald Trump (DT) rallies during the 2016 campaign in an effort “to restrict [DT’s] freedom of speech?”
