Time for a woman president; Amy Rosenberg; Beaver County Times; March 24, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I wish to reply to letter writer Jewel Robertson (“Give change a chance,” Thursday).

“We have had 42 male presidents, and it is time to vote for a president of the female gender.  We are more than 50 percent of the American people and should have one of our own in office.

“Many other countries, including tiny Israel, have been blessed with a woman.  Now it is time for the United States to be gender neutral.  It is time to search your soul and forget all of the negative rap songs.  Are we a country without bigotry?”

[RWC] Folks like Ms. Robertson and Ms. Rosenberg never cease to amaze me.  Electing someone simply because “it is time” because they are black or a woman is every bit as stupid as voting for someone simply because they are white or a man.  Selecting someone on the basis of skin color, sex, et cetera is the basis of “affirmative action.”  Of course, if either candidate really is elected simply because of their skin color or sex, you can bet both women would take offense at their candidate being called an “affirmative action president.”

You’ll note Ms. Rosenberg uses the same tactic as Mr. Robertson did for Mr. Obama.  That is, if you don’t vote for Mrs. Clinton, you’re a bigot.

I’ll go out on a limb and make a guess.  If a younger and U.S. citizen version of Margaret Thatcher (former Prime Minister of the U.K.) were running for president against a Democrat male, I’d be willing to bet it would not be the “time to vote for a president of the female gender” and Ms. Rosenberg would vote for the male.
