Jonas Rushman – 11/13/06

Lead by example; Jonas M. Rushman; Beaver County Times; November 13, 2006.

This is the seventh letter during the last couple of years I’ve noticed from Mr. Rushman.  In addition to being a consistent Bush basher, two of those letters claimed there is no liberal bias in the media and that “Fahrenheit 9/11” is a good source of documented facts.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“This is an open letter to the Democratic Party.  Congratulations.  The voters have spoken and handed you the reins of power.  Please do not swagger about becoming corrupt, vengeance-driven and power-mad.”

[RWC] “The voters have spoken and handed you the reins of power?”  I could be mistaken, but I believe George Bush is still President of the United States.

“Please do not swagger about becoming corrupt, vengeance-driven and power-mad?”  Too late, Mr. Rushman.

Likely House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is supporting John Murtha (D-PA) for Majority Leader.  If you recall, Mr. Murtha was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1978-1980 Abscam sting.  When you hear the recording of Mr. Murtha speaking with the undercover FBI agent, it’s pretty damning.  When offered a bribe, Mr. Murtha only said he wasn’t interested “at this point.”  The other damning point is Mr. Murtha never reported this activity.  The full transcript of the January 7, 1980, meeting is here.

We also need to remember Mr. Murtha is a “pork” king, and pork is all about accumulating power.

It gets “better.”  On liberal websites it’s rumored Ms. Pelosi also favors Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL) to chair the House Intelligence Committee instead of current ranking Democrat Jane Harman (D-CA).  In case you’re not familiar with Rep. Hastings, The Washington Post reports “Hastings was stripped of his position as a federal judge -- impeached by the House in which he now serves and convicted by the Senate -- for conspiring to extort a $150,000 bribe in a case before him, repeatedly lying about it under oath and manufacturing evidence at his trial.”  Lest you think Rep. Hastings’ conviction was politically motivated, his impeachment and conviction took place in 1989 when Democrats held solid majorities in both houses of Congress.  That an impeached judge would even be considered to be chairman of anything, let alone the Intelligence Committee, tells us all we need to know about how Democrats in Congress feel about corruption.

“Celebrate your victory, sit down, take a deep breath and go about the business of running the country as it is meant be run.”

[RWC] I know this will come as a surprise to Mr. Rushman, but the primary responsibility of “running the country” belongs to the President.  That’s why it’s called the “executive” branch.

“Lead by example and do not squander the trust the American electorate has placed in you.”

[RWC] I wonder if what Mr. Rushman is smoking is legal? <g>
