Vote down Iraq funding bill; Bob Schmetzer; Beaver County Times; May 17, 2007.

I critiqued two previous Schmetzer letters and it’s clear they do a good impression of broken records.  A 2004 letter asserted Republicans were “driving Americans into the ground.”  That letter claimed  the GOP planned “to reflect their commitment to defend our homeland by reintroducing the draft in 2005” despite the fact Democrats were the only guys talking about reinstating the draft.  Another letter resurrected the Cheney/Halliburton talking point.  His most recent previous rant lobbied for VP Cheney’s impeachment.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“It has been said that in a war it doesn’t matter who wins or loses.  What really matters is who is left.”

[RWC] I have two points.  First who says, “that in a war it doesn’t matter who wins or loses?”

Second, since it’s the winner who’s left, I believe it does “matter who wins or loses.”

“Our citizens are this country’s most valuable assets.

“Our political representatives of both parties need to put this Iraq adventure to rest.”

[RWC] Isn’t it a tad cavalier to refer to a war as an “adventure?”

“Call your representative and senators and let them know you want them to vote down the Iraq Supplemental Bill.”

[RWC] Sure, let’s make sure our volunteers in harm’s way to defend us don’t have what they need to complete their mission.  I’m sure Mr. Schmetzer supports the troops, though.  Right?

“Now, where is Osama bin Laden?”

[RWC] Yep, we catch/kill bin Laden and all the attacks against the U.S. – both home and abroad – will cease.  Is that what Mr. Schmetzer truly believes?
