Ann Stanton – 3/5/10

Elected officials are out of touch; Ann Stanton; Beaver County Times; March 5, 2010.  (There’s no link to the subject letter because it appeared only in the Times print edition.)

Two previous letters lobbying for a government-run, taxpayer-funded healthcare monopoly are here and here.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“It took Tuesday’s lead editorial to finally hit us with a huge dose of reality in what is happening in this country (“Sinking ship of state”).”

[RWC] Anyone expecting “a huge dose of reality in what is happening in this country” from a Times editorial is looking in the wrong place.

“I’m just sorry to see how our elected officials have been behaving not only with the health-care crisis in this country but with everything else that is going on.  They no longer seem interested in trying to help the American people but instead go to meetings where they sit and argue for hours and come out in the end with nothing accomplished.”

[RWC] If only that were true.  With all the proposals on the table from the Democrats, “nothing accomplished” is actually a good thing.  I’m sure lefties like Ms. Stanton disagree, however.

“Many people are hurting every day with a bad economy, little or no health-care coverage, unemployment, working in a minimum-wage job, and there is no relief in sight.

“I heard someone say on TV the other day that if unemployment were taken away, people would need to look for a job.  I guess that person has a good job.”

[RWC] Whether or not the person allegedly making the comment “has a good job” doesn’t make the comment wrong.

“What a shameful situation this country is in.  I haven’t seen any other newspaper say it better than The Times did.  All our elected officials should get a copy of this editorial because they seem to have lost touch with reality.”

[RWC] From where I’m standing, Ms. Stanton is no position to throw rocks.
