John M. Tomaszewski – 9/7/08

McCain made poor choice; John M. Tomaszewski; Beaver County Times; September 7, 2008.

Since September 2004, this is at least the 42nd letter from Mr. Tomaszewski with all but a handful spouting leftist talking points, with most bashing Republicans and/or President Bush.

This is only one of at least six letters in four days (9/4 – 9/7) from local lefties upset (worried?) about John McCain selecting – and Republican delegates approving – Gov. Sarah Palin as his VP candidate.  The “concern” has nothing to do with qualifications as the authors would have us believe.  It’s clear these folks are afraid of Mrs. Palin because it demonstrates even the Republican VP candidate has more relevant experience than the entire Democrat ticket, unless you consider being an ACORN street organizer relevant experience.  Let’s also keep in mind the questionable judgment of local lefties when it comes to their own choices.  Do names like Joseph Glenn, Frank LaGrotta, Darla LaValle, Edward Piroli, Sean Ramaley, Lois Sutter, and Mike Veon ring a bell?  Before lefties try to convince us Mr. McCain made a mistake, perhaps they need to look in the mirror.

And what of Mr. Obama’s choices?  For a candidate who incessantly talks about “change” and “hope,” why does Mr. Obama surround himself with the same lefty activists, advisers, and politicians we’ve seen since at least the 1990s?  Why would a true change agent select as his VP running mate a 35-year Washington insider (Joe Biden)?

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“The presidency of the United States is an awesome and powerful office.”

[RWC] You may recall Hillary Clinton is Mr. Tomaszewski’s candidate.  While Mr. Tomaszewski has written three letters (the other two are here and here) telling us why electing Mr. McCain would be bad in his opinion, he hasn’t told us why voting for Barack Obama would be good.  In fairness, to date this has been true for all letters from Obama supporters.

“The President is commander-in-chief of the military, has power to make treaties, appoints ambassadors, judges of the Supreme Court and many other courts and to veto laws and bills passed by Congress.

“This is but a short list of the powers of the office.  Republican presidential nominee John McCain, who is 72 and has a history of serious illnesses, has selected Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska, to be his vice president.”

[RWC] Regarding Mr. Tomaszewki’s references to Mr. McCain’s health in this and the following paragraph, Mr. Tomaszewski is being misleading at best.  Mr. McCain’s “serious illnesses” consist of having skin cancers removed and you’ll find he’s been very forthcoming about making his medical records public.  Do your own research (avoiding political sites) and see for yourself.

“In view of the above duties of the presidency and McCain’s physical condition, the appointment of Palin is a big gamble and not a wise decision by McCain.”

[RWC] You should note Mr. Tomaszewski didn’t tell us why Joe Biden was a good choice for Mr. Obama.
