Heed Cheney’s deeds, not words; John M. Tomaszewski; Beaver County Times; May 29, 2009.

Since September 2004, this is at least the 47th letter from Mr. Tomaszewski with all but a handful spouting leftist talking points, with most bashing Republicans and/or former President Bush.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Let us not forget the real Dick Cheney who is now spreading fear on terrorism.”

[RWC] Have you ever noticed that it’s “spreading fear on terrorism” when those on the right address terrorism, but not when lefties do it?  Other than some tactics, what is Mr. Cheney saying that President Obama isn’t?

“Cheney avoided the Vietnam War draft five times, and the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks occurred on the Bush-Cheney watch.”

[RWC] Dick Cheney legitimately received student and marriage deferments.  As a reminder, the 2004 Democrat nominee for President, John Kerry, also received a student deferment before enlisting after a subsequent student deferment was denied.  Then there’s the evader-in-chief, Bill Clinton.  Mr. Clinton evaded (an illegal act) the Vietnam draft by deceiving an Army colonel into admitting him to the ROTC program.  Mr. Clinton then ran back to school in England and actively protested the U.S. government.  To make it even better – and after he was 100% sure he could no longer be drafted, Mr. Clinton wrote a letter to the aforementioned colonel describing how Mr. Clinton duped him.  I could be wrong, but when Mr. Tomaszewski had the opportunity to choose World War II veterans George H.W. Bush and Bob Dole over Mr. Clinton in 1992 and 1996, respectively, does anyone doubt Mr. Clinton’s draft evasion was not an issue for Mr. Tomaszewski?  You may recall Hillary Clinton was Mr. Tomaszewski’s candidate.

“Except for a time when Cheney was a figurehead of a large oil company in Texas, he was on government payrolls.  He never had to earn a living in private industry.”

[RWC] This is a hoot!  Lefties treat working for the government as if it’s akin to having a vocation, yet Mr. Tomaszewski bashes Mr. Cheney for it.  The problem is, as usual, Mr. Tomaszewski is wrong.  Though Mr. Cheney spent most of his time in government service, he also worked for the Council on Foreign Relations, the American Enterprise Institute, and as CEO and chairman of the board of Halliburton.  Apparently Mr. Tomaszewski believes being CEO and chairman of the board is being “a figurehead.”  Further, Halliburton is/was not “a large oil company.”  Halliburton is an oil/gas equipment and services company.  Companies like Halliburton provide equipment and services to oil and gas companies.

“It is going take years and billions of dollars to clean up the Guantanamo Bay prison and end the two wars.  Thank God for the debates in Congress on terrorism.”

[RWC] What is there to clean up at Gitmo?  Everyone who inspects it gives Gitmo positive reviews, including President Obama’s AG Eric Holder.

Mr. Tomaszewski may want to rethink his “Thank God for the debates in Congress on terrorism.”  The deeper we get into the debate, the worse it looks for Democrats.  Besides, when didn’t we debate terrorism in Congress?
