GOP can’t stand the truth; Alex Yawor; Beaver County Times; April 8, 2008.

Mr. Yawor’s previous letters attempted to bash President Bush regarding Iraq and Iran, and VP Cheney regarding his hunting accident.  In a July 2006 letter, Mr. Yawor implied if you support our action in Iraq, you are “eager to send our young to die in Iraq.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Letter writer Paul Kahr (‘Clinton can’t handle the job,’ Tuesday) wrote that U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton doesn’t have the experience to be commander-in-chief.”

[RWC] In his letter “Blame the GOP for NAFTA,” Mr. Yawor said, “Paul Kahr is a friend of mine.”

“While Bill Clinton was in office, she visited many countries and talked to heads of state.  She was in Washington for eight years and saw the ins and outs of running this country.”

[RWC] That Mrs. Clinton “visited many countries and talked to heads of state” is true for all first ladies.

“He says that she wants to improve the health-care system but can’t because we already have the best.  If that is true, why are there some 50 million people without health-care coverage in this country?”

[RWC] I cover the “50 million people without health-care coverage” myth here.

“He says that Clinton and U.S. Sen. Barack Obama tell the voters what they want to hear and they believe them.  Is he telling us that all the things U.S. Sen. John McCain is telling the Republicans what he is going to do, that they believe he is going to do it?”

[RWC] Mr. McCain may do what he says.  After all, that’s pretty much what President Bush did.

“He also wants to know if we are watching the Democrats who went to Washington and have gotten nothing done and that he is disgusted with their actions.

“Yes, I am watching them, and I also am watching one of the Republicans who went to Washington and what he has done.  He has gotten thousands of our young killed and maimed, and before this war is over, we will be trillions of dollars deeper in a hole that my children and their children will have to pay for.  Most people in this country are disgusted with that.”

[RWC] You have “love” folks like Mr. Yawor.  Mr. Yawor isn’t clear who “He” is, but why are folks like Mr. Yawor so willing to blame casualties on Americans, not the enemy that’s actually doing the killing?

“He said some Democrats already have seen what’s going on, and the ones who are voting to do their homework before voting.  Well, I’ve done my homework and know what I am going to do.”

[RWC] The first sentence doesn’t make any sense.  In his letter, Mr. Kahr wrote, “Americans who are voting, watch what you are voting for.  Do your homework before you vote.”

“Some Democrats don’t tell the truth, but the Republicans can’t stand the truth.”

[RWC] You have to love “the Republicans can’t stand the truth” comment.  Perhaps Mr. Yawor should look in a mirror.  Despite the fact Bill Clinton made approving NAFTA a priority in his first administration, Mr. Yawor wants to “blame” the GOP for NAFTA.  This despite the fact Democrats controlled both houses of Congress at the time and the President was a Democrat.
