Alex Yawor – 1/3/10

Be careful when forwarding e-mails; Alex Yawor; Beaver County Times; January 3, 2010.

Some of Mr. Yawor’s previous letters attempted to bash then-President Bush regarding Iraq and Iran, and then-VP Cheney regarding his hunting accident.  In a July 2006 letter, Mr. Yawor implied if you supported our action in Iraq, you were “eager to send our young to die in Iraq.”  Two of Mr. Yawor’s letters tried to elevate Jimmy Carter (here and here).

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I recently received e-mails about President Barack Obama.”

[RWC] This is at least the second letter from someone complaining about Obama-related e-mail.

“One was about the new dollar coin stating it was Obamas doing to put In God We Trust’ on the edge of the coin.  The other was about not showing respect for our service men that were killed.

“About the coin: The Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 states, The inscription of the year minting or issuance of the coin and the inscription E Pluribus’ and God We Trust’ shall be edge-incused into the coin.’

“This was passed in the Senate and House and quietly signed into law by President George Bush on Dec. 22, 2005.

“E-mail two: The photo shows the military saluting, civilians with hands over hearts and Obama with his hands clasped in front of him at a wreath-laying ceremony.

“The picture is true, but whoever started this e-mail did not tell the whole story.”

[RWC] Given his letter-writing body of work, please forgive me for laughing when Mr. Yawor complains that someone did not tell the whole story.

“At the time of the photo, Hail to the Chief’ was being played.  Department of Defense instructions state, ‘‘During all renditions of Hail to the Chief’ by military musical organizations, military personal [sic] in uniform shall accord it the same honor as they would the National Anthem.’’’  Similar protocol is optional for non-uniformed civilians.”

[RWC] Since Mr. Yawor brought it up, as President and commander-in-chief of the military, Mr. Obama is a bit more than your average non-uniformed civilian.

“I wish people would check these things out before sending.”

[RWC] I always get a kick out of folks like Mr. Yawor who cant take what they dish out.  Dont get me wrong; I dont support misleading people, but if youre familiar with his letter-writing body of work, you know Mr. Yawor never lets facts get in the way of bashing someone with whom he disagrees.  Now, though, Mr. Yawor allegedly receives factually incorrect e-mail about someone he supports and suddenly hes concerned about the facts.  Youll also note Mr. Yawor never wrote a letter complaining about erroneous e-mail notes he received about then-President Bush.
