Outcome of incident reflects our courage; Sherry Allen; Beaver County Times; January 17, 2010.

Ms. Allen wrote three previous letters I didn’t critique.  One (“Conserving water for future,” 1/13/08) asked us to conserve water (primarily by not eating meat) and another (“Say ‘no’ to push polling,” 2/10/08) complained about alleged telephone “push polls” by Republicans, and the third was (“Plant a garden to offset oil usage,” 8/1/08).  In one letter I did critique, Ms. Allen gushed about a book she found “that has hundreds of ideas on how to save our planet.”  In a partisan letter, Ms. Allen concluded with “Let’s endeavor to walk together peacefully.”  In one letter, Ms. Allen related a story of disaffected Republicans voting for Mr. Obama.  In another letter, Ms. Allen tried to compare abortion and war in an effort to promote Barack Obama over John McCain.  Other letters from Ms. Allen were entitled “Let’s be proactive on the environment,” “Arena a valuable community asset,” “Time to get behind health-care reform,” and “A state budget we can all live with,” and “Keep pushing for a public option.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“When I heard President Barack Obama talk to us like adults and take responsibility for the human errors that allowed the Christmas airline bombing attempt to happen, it was so refreshing.

“His words reveal his admirable character.

“The passengers on the plane also took responsibility for the protection of their own lives and demonstrated courage and cooperative action that stopped the terrorist.

“I believe many here in Beaver County would have done the same as those passengers, and were also thankful that no one died.

“Our administration faced many difficult decisions last year, but we can be thankful for the personal accomplishments of our citizens and our nation.

“The outcome of the airline incident reflects our courage and determination.  What an inspiring example to begin the new year.  Let’s take a deep breath, and rejoice in the moment.”

[RWC] As I read this letter I pictured an Obama shrine in Ms. Allen’s house.  Can a petition from Ms. Allen be far behind that proposes we rename Presidents Day to Obama Day and change its observation date to August 4th (Mr. Obama’s birthday)? <g>

Seriously, idolizing anyone is problematic, especially politicians.  That’s how the world gets the likes of Castro, Hitler, Mao, Stalin, et cetera.

As for Ms. Allen’s comments about taking personal responsibility, they somehow seem at odds with her position we should turn over our personal responsibility for acquiring healthcare to the government.
