Betty Ann Bowser – 9/21/12

Election will make or break us; Betty Ann Bowser; Beaver County Times; September 21, 2012.  At the time of this writing, this letter appeared only in the print edition of the BCT.  I apologize for any transcription errors.

Previous letters from Ms. Bowser I know about were “What’s going on?”, “Why is Pennsylvania not thrilled with Obama?”, “A lot to answer for,” “Are Tea Partiers malcontents?”, and “‘Would Jesus be a Republican?’.”  I did not critique the last letter because it was a collection of unconnected sentences.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Why has so much money and animosity been spent to make President Barack Obama a one-term president?”

[RWC] I wonder if Ms. Bowser asked this question in 2004 with respect to President George W. Bush.

“What is the reasoning behind it?  What is wrong with his policies?  He has accomplished amazing things through his presidency.”

[RWC] Note Ms. Bowser didn’t describe the “policies,” what’s so great about the “policies,” or the “amazing things” President Obama “has accomplished.”

As for “the reasoning,” I don’t know about Democrats, but Mr. Obama pursues leftist policies and I’m a conservative.  In the case of Mr. Romney, many of his ideological positions are similar to mine.

“The hatred is eerie.  Why?  Is it preconceived judgment because he is black?”

[RWC] This sounds like projection.  That is, Ms. Bowser uses skin color to guide her decisions so she assumes others do as well.  Does Ms. Bowser support Mr. Obama “because he is black” and/or oppose Mitt Romney because he is white?

As for the term “hatred,” it’s “hate” to disagree with lefty dogma.

“Half of our country seems to be out of touch with reality.  The 2012 election will make or break us.”

[RWC] Ms. Bowser may be right.  Let’s hope Ms. Bowser gets “[in] touch with reality” before she casts her vote(s).

“Who are the haves and have-nots?  Which one are you?”

[RWC] Who cares?  If you are a have or have-not, does it make your position more or less valid?  As a reminder, President Obama is very much a “have.”
