Get over it; Mark Hogan; Beaver County Times; June 22, 2011.

Previous letters from Mr. Hogan I critiqued are here, here, here, and here.  Mr. Hogan wrote four other letters I did not critique.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I’m writing in response to Bob Doughty’s letter asking to see our president’s elementary school report card ‘(Show us the transcripts,’ Thursday).

“Why do people feel they need to do the vetting process for this office with this particular president?  There is so much going on in the country and world that requires President Barack Obama’s attention I’m sure he has little time for these games.”

[RWC] Ignoring the fact Mr. Obama’s staff would handle this, not Mr. Obama, perhaps he could find “time for these games” by playing less of another game, golf.  Just kidding, but Mr. Hogan left himself open with the “little time for these games” comment.  I don’t care about Mr. Obama’s records or begrudge him playing golf.  As I’ve noted before, presidents are never off duty from a high-pressure job.  If playing golf helps Mr. Obama unwind for a few hours, that’s fine by me.

“The birth certificate fiasco was over the top, and we’re now hoping to out silly that?”

[RWC] Mr. Hogan appears to have a selective or short memory.  As I noted in my critique of Mr. Doughty’s letter, no release of President George W. Bush’s records was ever enough, eventually resulting in Rathergate.  My records go back to 2004 and I found no letters from Mr. Hogan asking, “Why do people feel they need to do the vetting process for this office with this particular president?” with respect to Mr. Bush.

“OK, we get it.  You don’t want him to be president.  Many of us just suffered two terms of that feeling.  We got over it, and I’m sure you guys will as well.”

[RWC] “We got over it?”  Sure.
