Ed Hum – 10/24/06

Grim predictions; Edward J. Hum; Beaver County Times; October 24, 2006.

Mr. Hum led off his letter from September 2005 with, “Fellow Republicans, this is my last letter about George W. Bush.”  I responded with, “Anyone taking bets?”  This is Mr. Hum’s 10th anti-Bush letter since his September 2005 promise, and at least his 19th anti-Bush and/or anti-Republican letter since July 2004.

Mr. Hum is in full throat for the election.  This is his fifth letter since late August.

This is the second letter from a Republican impersonator today.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Fellow Republicans, a year or so ago I predicted the United States would be out of Iraq by November 2006 elections.”

[RWC] Not exactly.

Mr. Hum’s first prediction for when we’d be out of Iraq came in his letter of August 28, 2005, and it said, “the troops will be out of Iraq by next summer.  You can bet on that.” and “all uniformed troops will be out of Iraq by next summer.”  It wasn’t until his letter of March 23, 2006, that Mr. Hum asserted we’d be out of Iraq “by the 2006 elections.”

“I was wrong.  It’s so bad that we will be stuck there for years.”

[RWC] Duh!  President Bush and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld have been saying that for a couple of years and Mr. Hum knows it.  When he made his first errant prediction, Mr. Hum wrote, “Some general says we might be in Iraq until 2009.”

“Another prediction: after the election most of two more Army divisions will go to Iraq, and we will try to get an international peace-keeping force in place.”

[RWC] Mr. Hum seems to forget we’ve been trying to get more international involvement since 2003.

“Despite Iraq, Foley, fiasco, hubris and state of denial, the Bush people will still be in charge, and we will be stuck in Iraq long after the present incompetents are gone.

“And Iraq had nothing to do with Sept. 11, 2001.”

[RWC] Who said it did?  We’ve known this since 2001/2002.

As I concluded my critique of Mr. Hum’s last letter, Mr. Hum realizes President Bush isn’t up for reelection, doesn’t he?
