Jerry Miskulin – 10/11/09

Rush Limbaugh is a propaganda minister; Jerry Miskulin; Beaver County Times; October 11, 2009.

I encourage you to review Mr. Miskulin’s body of work in the archives.  Mr. Miskulin has written at least 50 letters since 2004 (I didn’t critique all of them.).  Most (all?) are illogical and full of falsehoods (not just wrong).

In his most recent letters (here and here), Mr. Miskulin expressed displeasure with the tea parties.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I don’t mind the opinions of Rush Limbaugh; it’s just that he gets paid to give them. In a very sinister way, it reminds me of Goebbels, the propaganda minister of Nazi Germany, and how he made a living off disinformation.”

[RWC] First, is constantly comparing people on the right with Nazis a learned response for folks on the left or is it instinct?  Mr. Miskulin realizes the Nazis were leftists, doesn’t he?  You’ll note Mr. Miskulin doesn’t detail any of the alleged “misinformation.”

Second, Joseph Goebbels worked for the German government.  Rush Limbaugh is a private citizen who has absolutely no power to do anything to anyone.

“A woman may run around with three or four men and she may be called a ‘loose woman,’ but if she starts asking for money for her favors, then she may be referred to as a whore.”

[RWC] All professional pundits provide their opinions for money; it’s how they earn a living for their families.  Local examples are the Times editorial board and Times opinion columnist J.D. Prose.  I assume Times opinion columnist Gino Piroli is also paid, but I don’t know for sure.  Does Mr. Miskulin consider them (and all other professional pundits) to be “whore[s]” as well?

Using his lame analogy, since Mr. Miskulin offers his opinion (via his numerous letters to the editor) to many more than “three or four men,” what does that make him?

Finally, doesn’t this analogy indicate some sexism on the part of Mr. Miskulin?

“That’s what Rush Limbaugh is in my mind.  His whole game is to sow discontent no matter what the price.  It’s no wonder there’s no center in American politics because emotions don’t matter; it’s all about taking a side.”

[RWC] “[E]motions don’t matter?”  That’s one of the foundations of leftist tactics and strategy.  Emotions shouldn’t matter.  Far too often emotions lead us to do stupid things.  What matters is doing what is right, and that’s usually determined by facts, history, and logic, not emotions.

As for “it’s all about taking a side,” perhaps Mr. Miskulin should read his own body of work.  People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw rocks.

“When I used to listen to him, in the end I said you’d have to be an idiot to believe this guy.  Well a lot of people do, and now when it comes to politics or the economy, they don’t have a clue.  If Rush Limbaugh is so smart, tell me why does the guy have no heart?  Yeah, we can see why after all these years we didn’t get very far.”

[RWC] Sure, we all sat around and sang Kumbaya.  Funny how Mr. Miskulin didn’t find anyone objectionable on the left, isn’t it?  For example, on 10/13/09 on MSNBC, professional leftist pundit (“whore?”) Chris Matthews said, “Rush Limbaugh is looking more and more like Mr. Big, and at some point somebody’s going to jam a CO2 pellet into his head and he's going to explode like a giant blimp.  That day may come. Not yet.  But we’ll be there to watch.”  As a reminder, Mr. Big was the murdering, drug dealing villain in the James Bond movie “Live and Let Die.”
