What a liar; Larney Santry; Beaver County Times; March 28, 2006

In summary, as Mr. Santry’s previous letters here and here, this is a rant devoid of facts.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“The man running this country or trying to run this country must have all false teeth with all the lies coming out of that smart mouth.”

[RWC] Let me get this straight.  A person is a liar if he has false teeth?  My grandparents were not liars and they had false teeth.  This leadoff paragraph pretty much tells us what to expect from the rest of the letter.

“Recently, President Bush spoke to a hand-picked audience in West Virginia.  I never in my lifetime heard a man speak so long and say nothing at all.  This thing called a president is not just a lame duck - he is just lame.”

[RWC] I guess Mr. Santry never listened to himself speak.

“All people support our troops 100 percent no matter what he and his stooges say.  His approval rating is 38 percent, so you know how much they like him.”

[RWC] If Mr. Santry really believes “All people support our troops 100 percent,” he hasn’t been paying attention.  In fact you’ll see what Mr. Santry thinks of the National Guard in the next paragraph.

“He is supposed to be the commander of the troops.  He never served in active duty at all.  This man is a draft dodger with the help of Daddy.  Remember that!”

[RWC] According to Mr. Santry, fighter pilots in the Air National Guard were the equivalent of draft dodgers.  Yeah, Mr. Santry supports the troops – not.

I wonder if Mr. Santry had a problem with Bill Clinton, a man who didn’t serve in the military at all and truly did evade the draft by running off to England.

“He told the audience in West Virginia that Social Security will go broke shortly and that Congress is doing nothing about it.

“Well isn’t the Congress Republican-controlled?  See, he doesn’t even know which end is up.”

[RWC] I don’t understand the point Mr. Santry is trying to make, if any.  Regardless of the party holding the majority in Congress, Congresses don’t always do what the President wants or what is right.

On a side note, Congress has a Republican majority, but it’s not Republican controlled.

“You can’t impeach him because in the wings is that avid quail hunter, and that is no prize.”

[RWC] President Bush can’t be impeached because to date he hasn’t committed an impeachable act.  I know it will come as a surprise to Mr. Santry, but being hated by Mr. Santry is not an impeachable offense.

“How this thing can sleep at night is beyond me.  More than 2,300 dead, 16,000 injured and all the wasted billions of dollars caused by one man’s choice.”

[RWC] When he wrote about “one mans’ choice,” Mr. Santry chooses to ignore both current events and how our government works.

First, Congress approved the Iraq War with the Iraq War Resolution.  It was not “one man’s choice.”

Second, Congress could end our Iraq mission simply by refusing to pass the bills that provide the money to fund the mission.  Again, it’s not “one man’s choice.”
