Alex Yawor – 1/13/11

Palin’s ‘symbols’ aren't so innocent; Alex Yawor; Beaver County Times; January 13, 2011.

Some of Mr. Yawor’s previous letters attempted to bash then-President Bush regarding Iraq and Iran, and then-VP Cheney regarding his hunting accident.  In a July 2006 letter, Mr. Yawor implied if you supported our action in Iraq, you were “eager to send our young to die in Iraq.”  Two of Mr. Yawor’s letters tried to elevate Jimmy Carter (here and here).  Mr. Yawor has been a busy writer lately; this is at least the 12th letter from him since 1/3/10 and the second this year.  The last Yawor letter I critiqued was entitled “‘Notch victims’ will never get money.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I wonder how many people know that Sarah Palin on her Facebook page shows names of Democrats who voted for the health bill in target-cross hairs and said, ‘Don’t retreat, instead reload.’”

[RWC] As far as I can tell, the quote was a tweet, not a Facebook post.  The subject Facebook page doesn’t show “names of Democrats who voted for the health bill in target-cross hairs;” it marks the locations of the target districts with the names of the reps shown in a table.

“Now she is saying that those are survey symbols.  Will someone please tell me which part of a surveying instrument do you reload?

“I think that is very stupid for someone like Palin, who Republicans and Tea Party people think is very intelligent, to do something like that with the type of society that we live in today.  There were also some Republicans who defended her for that.”

[RWC] Let’s look at some items Mr. Yawor apparently has no problem with.

“That Scott down there that’s running for governor of Florida.  Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him.  Put him against the wall and shoot him.” – Former Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-PA) on 10/23/10.

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” – Then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) on 6/13/08.

Both the Democrat Leadership Committee (2004) and the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee (2010) had maps with targets on seats held by Republicans.

A few years ago, I saw a labor union management operative working out at the Beaver County YMCA who wore a t-shirt with a gun-sight on the word “scab.”

“I have read and heard that Palin may be running for president in the next election.  With what she posted on Facebook, I do not think she would get my vote.”

[RWC] I’m guessing this is Mr. Yawor’s attempt at humor.  Given his letter-writing body of work, Mr. Yawor wouldn’t vote for a Republican even if you threatened him with death.
