Alex Yawor – 4/17/11

History gets in way of arguments; Alex Yawor; Beaver County Times; April 17, 2011.

Mr. Yawor wrote at least 35 letters since 2005.  This is at least the 13th letter from Mr. Yawor since 1/3/10 and the third this year.  Some of Mr. Yawor’s previous letters attempted to bash then-President Bush regarding Iraq and Iran, and then-VP Cheney regarding his hunting accident.  In a July 2006 letter, Mr. Yawor implied if you supported our action in Iraq, you were “eager to send our young to die in Iraq.”  Two of Mr. Yawor’s letters tried to elevate Jimmy Carter (here and here).  The last Yawor letter I critiqued was entitled “Palin’s ‘symbols’ aren’t so innocent.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“In the April 6 letters, Luke Berardelli said, ‘We are the great power and have the responsibility to help those who are under the rule of tyrants who slaughter their own people.’

“In Wednesday’s letters, Edward J. Hum said he is a Republican and he does not like to hear ‘about Bush’s unnecessary trillion-dollar war in Iraq or his trillion-dollar Wall Street bailout.  Enough!’”

[RWC] Given Mr. Yawor reads the op-ed pages on a regular basis and has written at least 35 letters of his own since 2005, I find it hard to believe he actually believed Mr. Hum’s letter.  You see, as I noted in my critique of that letter, Mr. Hum is one of several local Republican impersonators.  Since only 2004, Mr. Hum wrote at least 60 letters and most were no more than exercises in bashing then-President Bush and/or other Republicans while at the same time he claimed to be a Republican in at least 21 of those letters.  Again, it’s hard to believe a WWII Marine like Mr. Yawor doesn’t recognize he and Mr. Hum are comrades.

“There are tyrants all over the world who are slaughtering their own people, so does Berardelli want us to send our young people to die all over the world to help these people?  World War II can be called a justified war because there were three nuts who wanted to rule the world.

“In regard to Hum, why is it OK for Republicans to blame President Barack Obama for spending a trillion dollars for the Iraq war and the Wall Street bailout but say nothing about Bush?  Could it be that they had enough because they can’t stand the truth?”

[RWC] What we have here is a straw man by Mr. Yawor. I didn’t know Republicans “blame President Barack Obama for spending a trillion dollars for the Iraq war and the Wall Street bailout but say nothing about Bush.”  Regarding Iraq, Mr. Obama has been following the Bush administration’s plans nearly exactly.  As for “the Wall Street bailout,” it happened during both the Bush and Obama administrations and Mr. Obama supported it during the Bush administration.  Mr. Obama also launched his own $850 billion bailout/“stimulus” package soon after taking office.

“Hum should do some research as Berardelli did.  The Iraq war and the Wall Street bailout were started on Bush’s watch.  This is not Democratic propaganda.”

[RWC] Not that he should have needed to, but Mr. Yawor didn’t take a few seconds to check out Mr. Hum yet tells us “[Mr.] Hum should do some research.”  You have to give Mr. Yawor “credit” for chutzpah if he really didn’t know about Mr. Hum.
