Marie C. Barkovic – 7/16/08

This page was last updated on July 21, 2008.

Here are facts for McCain adviser; Marie C. Barkovic; Beaver County Times; July 16, 2008.

Previous letters included a list of talking points and support for SCHIP.  Earlier this year Ms. Barkovic told us (here and here) of her displeasure with the war in Iraq.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“According to former senator and multimillionaire Phil Gramm, co-chairman of John McCain’s campaign, America has become a nation of whiners.  Are we a nation of whiners?”

[RWC] I don’t know if Mr. Gramm is a “multimillionaire” or not, but Ms. Barkovic appears to believe it’s relevant.  Why?  FYI, based on his financial disclosure form, in 2004 Barack Obama received $4 million in book royalties.  The Obamas also live in a $1.65 million house (with the help of Tony Rezko).  If Ms. Barkovic ever writes about Mr. Obama, I’ll bet she doesn’t refer to him as “multimillionaire Barack Obama.”

I’d also be willing to bet Ms. Barkovic didn’t read/hear Mr. Gramm’s comments in full.  Then again, it likely would have made no difference.

“Fact: We are in a war with no end in sight that has claimed more than 4,000 lives, maimed more than 30,000 and continues to cost billions.

“Fact: Our borders are not secure and we have been invaded by more than 20 million illegal immigrants.”

[RWC] Support for illegal aliens appears to be one of the leftist positions Ms. Barkovic can’t stomach.  Ms. Barkovic has covered this at least twice before (here and here).

“Fact: In the first quarter of this year, we have lost more than 600,000 jobs while bringing in under H1 visas more than 86,000 foreign workers to take what jobs are left at lower wages.

“Fact: Gasoline is more than $4 a gallon.

“Fact: The cost of food and everyday basic needs has soared.

“Fact: Home sales are at an all-time low and foreclosures at an all-time high.

“Fact: The rich get richer, the poor get poorer and the middle class continues to disappear.

“Fact: Polls have shown many Americans think this country is headed in the wrong direction — down.

“Whining or just the facts?”

[RWC] Whining.

Ms. Barkovic’s letters are frequently little more than lists of lefty talking points.  This is another one.
