Reduce our dependence on oil; Gilda De Ferrari; Beaver County Times; October 10, 2007.

This is at least the fifth letter from Ms. De Ferrari on this subject since June 2004.  The previous letters were “Vote Bush out of office,” “Stop the carnage,” “Stop the killing,” and “Let the majority be heard.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“The sooner we all understand that the ‘preventive war’ in Iraq is all about oil, the more mandatory it is that we all help by reducing our dependence on oil by taking fewer car trips, buying higher efficiency appliances, changing all our light bulbs to energy efficiency light bulbs, keeping air conditioning at a minimum setting and setting our winter thermostats at the lowest point for comfort and health.”

[RWC] Geez, another “war for oil” believer.

“If not for our own benefit, let’s do these things for the war veterans who gave their lives, their health, and their futures fighting in wars that never should have happened.

“Let’s also demand that Congress bring our troops home now.”

[RWC] Based on a previous letter from Ms. De Ferrari, she appears to have more concern for “our troops” than she does unborn children.  Then again, I’m not sure Ms. De Ferrari has that much concern for “our troops.”  Why?  In “Stop the killing”, Ms. De Ferrari accused our armed forces of “crimes against humanity.”

“Finally, let’s all sign petitions for impeachment of a president who took us into this tragic situation.”

[RWC] Here’s what I wrote in a comment I posted on the Times website.

“Ms. De Ferrari, I believe you’ll find the ‘president who took us into this tragic situation,’ Saddam Hussein, was ‘impeached’ in 2003 and executed last December.  Even if he were still alive, I don’t know how much weight ‘petitions for impeachment’ from U.S. citizens would have in Iraq.”
