Truth may be disagreeable, but it’s not ‘fake news’; Thomas M. Finch; Beaver County Times; October 20, 2017.

The BCT has published at least 51 letters from Mr. Finch (TMF) since December 2004.  At least 31 of these letters were anti-Bush and/or anti-Republican and they never disappoint.  Here is one example.  You can find the remaining Finch letters I critiqued in the critique archives.  As usual, this letter is little more than a string of leftist talking points.  I wish he could get a regular column in the BCT.  I also wish he could get at least five minutes per day on a local radio and/or TV station.  The most recent Finch letters I reviewed were “How can we support such an inept president,” “‘Trumpcare’ means lousy coverage, higher premiums” and “Trump doesn’t deserve to be admired, supported.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I wish to comment on Rita Gavert’s letter admonishing writer Linda Vetterly for her accurate assessment of Donald Trump. (You may refer to him as ‘President,’ but I won’t.)

“You cannot defend, what is untenable.  Just because you wish he were a better leader, that will not make it happen.  If you don’t regret your vote for him by now, you’re just not paying attention — and watching too much Faux News.

“I defer to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s much publicized critique of Trump’s competence by calling him a ‘moron’ Just because the truth is disagreeable, that does not make it ‘fake news.’”

[RWC] TMF provided us with an example of fake news.  The alleged sources for the “moron” story are anonymous.  Until the original “reporter” names names for verification, it’s fake news.

“Like all good fascists, Trump, denies ‘freedom of the press’ and would rather have them censored.  Your hero legitimately deserves all of the negative press that is reflected by his abysmal approval rating.  Vetterly got nothing ‘wrong.’”

[RWC] I don’t think TMF knows the definition of “fascism.”  As many others, TMF simply uses “fascism” as a pejorative.
