VA bonuses an outrage; Matthew P. Maljevec; Beaver County Times; May 10, 2007.

Since September 2005, Mr. Maljevec treated us with three letters (here, here, and here) with “Impeach Bush” in their titles, merely bashed President Bush in a fourth letter, in a fifth letter Mr. Maljevec asserted, “Rendell is one of the best governors Pennsylvania has ever had,” and in a sixth referred to Lynn Swann as a “wannabe” and to President Bush as “loser Bush.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“As a veteran of World War II, I was appalled to read about the Walter Reed veterans hospital fiasco.

“Now, we veterans are getting another slap in the face by the greedy administrators running the facilities and receiving hefty bonuses after messing things up for us vets.

“I understand that Congress is going to start an investigation concerning this matter, and the sooner the better.  This greed must stop.

“A case in point is what I am going through with the VA, and it stinks.

“I am a diabetic and I test my sugar once every other day.  After being in the VA hospital in Oakland, I found out that I must check my blood sugar three times a day.  I applied for an increase in my test strips and was told that I would have to pay for additional test strips out of my own pocket.

“Diabetic supplies are supposed to be free for veterans and seniors over 65.  The Veterans Administration told me that the policy of the administration is to limit my usage and that I am not qualified.

“Yet these greedy scrooges who administer the VA can find funds to pay themselves this so-called bonus.

“Like I have said before, this country was founded on a revolution and can be unfounded with a revolution.  It is about time we vets took back our country.  I would bet that most of those greedy creeps never served in the military.”

[RWC] Never one to let facts get in the way of a rant, Mr. Maljevec is at it again.  Walter Reed Army Medical Center is run by the Department of Defense, not the VA.  Even at that, the Walter Reed problems were not with medical care.  They were with substandard maintenance in the outpatient facility.

While my experience critiquing Mr. Maljevec’s letters leads me to question his credibility, if what he wrote about the blood sugar test strips is correct, that would appear to be a bad policy.
