What was writer whining about?; David V. Matthews; Beaver County Times; June 30, 2008.

For background, in previous letters Mr. Matthews told us there’s no liberal media bias, President Bush committed treason, he’s positive creation played no role in our evolution, President Bush plans to nuke Iran this year (2006), “Centrism is Bushism,” the Bush administration may be “conducting warrantless surveillance upon” us, the Bush administration is “warlike and imperialist,” and President Bush “finds the war he started amusing.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“As a Republican, letter writer Dan Reeping should be happy that his party has controlled the government for the past seven years; that the Democrats, the so-called opposition party, have given the Bush administration almost everything it has wanted, from billions in war funding to the Patriot Act; and that the news media have done next to nothing to challenge the administration, swallowing its propaganda about spying, Iraq, Iran, etc.

“However, judging from his letter (‘Party’s marriages bad for country,’ Tuesday), he (genuinely?) believes he lives under a regime in which ‘(t)he liberal media married the Democratic Party,’ with the result being ‘the country is going to hell.’

“Of course, a loyal Republican like Reeping would absolve his party of any responsibility for anything he would consider even remotely bad.

“Republicans, despite (or because of) their party’s immense power, tend to depict themselves as voiceless, liberal-persecuted underdogs, a clever way (intentional or not) to move political debate even further to the right.”

[RWC] Mr. Matthews joins Messrs. Thomas Finch, William Horter, and Dan Reeping in a battle of idiotic letters.
