Bush’s misdeeds should be probed; David V. Matthews; Beaver County Times; February 24, 2009.

For background, in previous letters Mr. Matthews told us there’s no liberal media bias, President Bush committed treason, he’s positive creation played no role in our evolution, President Bush plans to nuke Iran this year (2006), “Centrism is Bushism,” the Bush administration may be “conducting warrantless surveillance upon” us, the Bush administration is “warlike and imperialist,” and President Bush “finds the war he started amusing.”  Mr. Matthews also gave us a lesson in creative reading.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

Friday’s editorial ‘History will judge’ urged congressional Democrats not ‘to investigate the Bush administration’s misdeeds,’ such as torture and illegal spying.”

[RWC] As you read this letter, you’ll find Mr. Matthews likely hasn’t figured out why the Times took this position.

“First, the editorial stated, without offering any proof, no one cares about the administration’s misdeeds except for ‘partisans on both sides.’”

[RWC] Given Mr. Matthews’ history of drive-by accusations, you have to get a kick out of him complaining someone else didn’t offer “any proof” of their observations.  Though the Times didn’t provide any proof, the observation is correct for the most part.  If you review letters to the editor that complained about alleged Bush administration “misdeeds,” you’ll find serial Bush/Republican bashers like Mr. Matthews (See the examples above.) wrote the vast majority of them.  Don’t take my word for it; check it out for yourself.  That said, I’m sure Mr. Matthews would deny he’s a partisan.

“And second, an investigation would displease the big, bad ‘Republicans and their fellow travelers’ in talk radio, and no smart person really wants to do that.

“In short, if the country ignores what the Bush administration did and moves on, somehow ‘the truth will win out’ eventually.

“I doubt The Times would print an editorial in favor of letting ordinary people, not just Republican rulers, get away with illegal acts because only partisans care about something as boring as the law, and because someone might oppose a criminal investigation.”

[RWC] As I wrote in my critique of “History will judge,” I’ve supported investigations.
