The jive talking of right-wing hosts; Jerry Miskulin; Beaver County Times; April 10, 2011.

I encourage you to review Mr. Miskulin’s body of work in the archives.  Mr. Miskulin has written at least 65 letters since 2004 (I didn’t critique all of them.).  Most (all?) are illogical and full of falsehoods (not just wrong).

Mr. Miskulin expressed displeasure with the tea parties (here and here), proclaimed “Rush Limbaugh is a propaganda minister,” and told us “Tariff is the best way to reduce deficit.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“People like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly have a Mercedes-Benz and a Cadillac parked in their driveways, so you figure they would be satisfied.”

[RWC] Mr. Miskulin forgot to mention “EIB One,” Mr. Limbaugh’s Gulfstream G550 private jet.

“But they’re not.  They won’t be happy unless (or until) you don’t have a Mercedes or a Cadillac.  That’s what it’s all about, man.  They want to have you under their thumb.”

[RWC] It would be interesting to learn how Mr. Miskulin came to this conclusion.  Generally, these guys tend to promote policies that result in less government control of our lives and that tends to result in greater prosperity for the greatest number of people.

Does Mr. Miskulin believe the more government spends the more likely it is each of us will “have a Mercedes or a Cadillac?”  The result (goal?) of leftist policies/programs is to pull everyone down, not lift everyone up.

“The Republicans ran up the debt, and the middle- and lower classes are going to have to pay for it.  I tell you, you must be stupid to listen to that jive talking.”

[RWC] Unfortunately, both Democrats and Republicans are responsible.  Since 1931, by my count (using Obama administration data) we’ve run a deficit all but 12 years.  As far as debt, the U.S. government has been in debt since the Revolutionary War.  During the George W. Bush administration we increased our debt by $4.4 trillion in eight years.  In only two years of the Obama administration, Mr. Obama’s budget indicates debt will have increased by $3.5 trillion and by $6.7 trillion by the end of his first term.  Compared to the Bush administration, that’s a 52% greater debt increase in half the time.

Mr. Miskulin also fails to note deficits were dropping and by the end of fiscal year 2007 (the last before the recession), the deficit was down to $161 billion.  That trend ended with the recession, the result of leftist policies, programs, and government-sponsored entities.  That was also the last fiscal year for which a Republican-majority Congress produced a budget.  You’ll remember Democrats became the majority in both houses of Congress in January 2007.

“Wrap the flag all around you.  I don’t care because I can see right through you.

“America’s days in the sun are over.

“We are a dying civilization interested only in money - not your own but the other guy’s.  So, tell me what does that buy you?  It sure doesn’t buy you any time.”

[RWC] You have to give Mr. Miskulin credit for chutzpah.  His own ideology is all about government robbing Peter to pay Paul.
