Why did it take so long?; Jerry Miskulin; Beaver County Times; May 16, 2012.

I encourage you to review Mr. Miskulin’s body of work in the archives.  Mr. Miskulin has written at least 80 letters since 2004 (I didn’t critique all of them.).  Most (all?) are illogical and full of falsehoods (not just wrong).

Mr. Miskulin expressed displeasure with the tea parties (here and here), proclaimed “Rush Limbaugh is a propaganda minister,” and told us “Tariff is the best way to reduce deficit.”  Mr. Miskulin’s most recent letter was “Small government something sinister.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Concerning the president giving his support for gay marriage, I only say, why did it take him so long?”

[RWC] It didn’t.  This whole “Mr. Obama’s thinking about same-sex marriage evolved” BS was only political stagecraft.  Mr. Obama’s support for same-sex marriage has been known for at least 16 years.  According to The Huffington Post, “President-elect Obama’s answer to a 1996 Outlines newspaper question on marriage was: ‘I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages.’”

“Gays and lesbians have been living together out in the open for years.  They adopt kids and pay taxes like everyone else.  To deny these things would be delusional, and shouldn’t marriage be the next logical step?”

[RWC] I don’t use the term “gay” myself, but aren’t lesbians “gay?”  If so, why write “[g]ays and lesbians?”

As for “shouldn’t marriage be the next logical step?,” no.  Marriage is about a man and a woman and has been a foundation of human civilization for thousands of years.  If you want something similar for same-sex couples, whether homosexual or not, call it something else.

“If you are not one who believes in gay marriage, you must be one who believes the drug laws are working adequately.  Drugs may be illegal, but they are everywhere.”

[RWC] This is similar to the approach used by manmade global warming believers.  If you are a manmade global warming skeptic, you’re labeled a “denier.”  The analogy to Holocaust deniers is intentional.  For example, columnist Ellen Goodman wrote, “Let’s just say global warming deniers are now on a par with Holocaust deniers.”

“Finally, I’ve always found women to be smarter on average than men.  It seems they are always thinking and many are bolder than the men I know.  Men are like dogs and women are like cats, more solitary and mature.  We need more women in government in local, state and federal affairs.

“The early fight for women was a hard one, but where would we be without women’s capacity for fun?”

[RWC] Huh?
