Bush should step down; Lawrence E. Santry; Beaver County Times; October 1, 2006.

In summary, as Mr. Santry’s previous letters here, here, and here, this is a rant devoid of facts.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“How can President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney sleep at night for what they have done?  All the smart Republicans have jumped off his ship.  These two men are creating a ‘May Day.’  Bush is by far the worst president we have ever had, and his records prove it!”

[RWC] Name-calling in the first paragraph.  If you support President Bush, you’re a stupid Republican.  What about Democrats who support President Bush?  Why didn’t Mr. Santry list some of “the smart Republicans?”

If the records prove President “Bush is by far the worst president we have ever had,” why didn’t Mr. Santry cite those records?

“Six years of nothing to show but a war that has taken more than 2,700 lives of our young people and billions of dollars.  British Prime Minister Tony Blair had the right idea about stepping down.  Why doesn't Bush take a hint?”

[RWC] Does Mr. Santry know there’s a difference between our form of government and the parliamentary form the Brits use?

Anyway, using Mr. Santry’s logic, President Bush should actually stay on two years after his second term ends?  Why?  U.S. presidents may be elected for a maximum of two terms (eight years).  Tony Blair will have served as PM for 10 years when he steps down next year.  Oops.
